I was looking through a box of 57 Ford parts and came across a small pump with a solenoid on it. The tag says Auto-LiteSSC4001A.It has two poles. One says ign and the other says sw. The pump has a male threaded port on one side and a female threaded port that a 3/8 flared line will screw into. It also has a hose connection on each side that a rubber line will slip on . The pump has Airway cast into the housing and the numbers 1076 on the other side. I will try and post pictures later today. Maybe a convertible top motor or something like that? There is nowhere on my 57 Fairlane 4 door hardtop that it goes that I can see. When I bought my Fairlane 5 years ago the former owner seems to have bought every spare part for a 57 Ford he could find. I am down to the last boxes and I found this part ? Maybe somebody can help see if this is worth saving or not.
Maybe it is an electric fuel pump? Shoot us a picture. Ignition would be your hot wire and SW??? Ground?
ign is easy, sw usually means switch, so that doesn't make a lot of sense unless they're referencing some other switch (like the one that activates this "pump" thing. I like your convertible top idea (even though you don't have one), as most parts acquiring projects tend to assimiliate anything and everything that might be relevant to your car and/or good trading with somebody else. At one time I had over a dozen 55-57 Chev electric wiper motors, two rear speaker knobs with labeled escutcheon, two 56 Corvette radios, one tissue dispenser, a wiring harness and switches for power seats, and a cigarette snuffer. All for Tri-fives. This was back when you could find them (all body styles) in any wrecking yard. So maybe YOUR part is just a spare Ford pump that your guy was holding to barter for something he might need/want. dj
My first thought too, and still possible, but I knew a guy with a '57 in about the '59 timeframe and distinctly remember a foot-operated pedal gizmo at the left floorboard to pump windshield water. DD
