I would like to see some 40's and 50's customs with the "Proper Stance" and or what makes a "Proper Stance" so post some pics and tell me/us what makes it sit just right!! -COS
I think it totally depends on the look that you are after and the era that the car represents if it is a "traditional" car Paul Harper's 41 Ford. About as traditional as you will find with the tail dragging stance to go along with the skirts and carson style top. A 40 ragtop with no skirts that sits level or with a slight rake. Still it sits just right for the look of the whole car. 57 Pontiac that sits right even if some won't like the wheels and tires. <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
No Just wanted to get a thread together so some of the "NEW" Guys know the "LOOK" Thought it would also be cool to see what you all thought was the right stance.... It varies from one area to another I.E. "Tail Dragger" "Whichita Stance" on and on.... Answer is.... Still waiting on Gray Hound...
This is what I am talking about... a visual post so some of the newbies and such have an idea what to shoot for!!!! Keep them coming!!
HaHa....When I have a full tank and the trunk is loaded (insert "junk in the trunk" joke here)it sits lower. I need to make sure the drive shaft doesn't carve a nice hole in the floor before I put the lowering blocks on. That, and living in close proximity to East San Jose,I don't want it to look too Lowrider-ish....
Hot Rods= High in the back, low in the front Kustoms= Low in the back, high in the front I hate how many hot rods I see that are lower in the back. It looks terrible. Hot rods are supposed to look quick and nimble. Kustoms are supposed to look low and sleek.
sadly in this day and age, stance is not even given a passing thought on many builds. nothing worse than a HOT ROD sitting on the ground.
To answer this properly is going to take one long ass post, you would have to go into particular builders and how they influenced building. Then you would have to highlight seminal cars that took customs in a new direction (I refuse to say tr%$d). Then like Mr48chev post up a picture showing every change in the direction that the styles took, like going from tail dragger's to level etc. Then there is the geographical issue, different styles abounded at the one time like the obvious differences between East and West Coast cars. You know, I think it would take a book to even come close to answering this one! Doc.
Actually, the proper stance is your left foot forward, weight on your right foot, right hand hovering just over the gunbutt and a steely-eyed glare at your opponent 50ft away on that dusty main street in Lizardpiss, AZ. Aside from that....the proper stance is whatever pleases YOU when you squint one eye and look at the car from the side. If it looks TOO HIGH in back...it ain't right stance....if it looks TOO HIGH in front....that ain't it either....if you can't figure out WHAT you like, go grab another Coor's and try again later. dj
Hot Rods i shoot for the front of the cowl section being 1 1/2" lower than the front of the rear wheel well, or a 1 1/2" rake. And a beer can should just fit under the cowl.
