Heres a couple from Australia although one did come over from Georgia for restoration,an early 60's and mid 80's Lagonda.I believe they only made 12 of the earlier one and not many more of the 80's model.Used Aston Martin mechanicals, did most of the resto work on the 60's one, both were owned by the same person. The other one is a 1908 Locomobile, big car.Worked on a Stutz Blackhawk roadster that won a concourse or two over here, will find the photos one day plus lots of other rare cars.Probably still some rare stuff hiding over here.

one of the guys that works w me at bear metal kustoms has a 40 ford 4 dr convertable. only 6 were made for the worlds fair and they were told to destroy them all afterwards. turns out, his slipped through the cracks. a lot of old timers will fight with him and tell him its a 39 with a 40 front end. but its not. even the vin number came up as non excistent. oh yeah, its chopped and turned into a hotrod.

  9. A Singer 4A roadster.
A 1927 Buick 4 door sedan (still in a barn near me).
    A Cord 810.
A Healey Silverstone that had an Olds 303 and an independent rear with inboard brakes made out of a Ford banjo rear with the alxles shortend to about 6 inches. The swing axles had a flange that bolted to the standard Ford wheel lugs. The whole center part was maybe 18"wide. It had an all aluminum body with clamshell fenders and BIG real Magnesium wheels. The guy told me he would sell it to me. I went home and got the money and when I got back and hour later he had sold it to someone else. His comment, "I didn't think you were serious". He figured bcause I was only 18 that I was just talking big. 42 years later and I still get annoyed thinking about it.

I'm not sure about the twin grilled Lincoln ( I have seen a picture of it on the road) but the top one is a "Spohn" bodied car.Could be anything under that swoopy body, such as a prewar Mercedes or BMW.In fact I knew someone who has also been up close to it. Spohn did custom work for US servicemen based in GERMANY after WW2.They would do anything for anyone .As a result a lot dubious looking metal work was done at the whim of owners.

    Barn find?? well no........

That ''Storage area'' is Hartung's museum in Chicago. The rocketship is a Veritas. It began as a German body but was customised to the Flash Gordon look in the US

There is also a wonderful collection of early bikes there......I think it's still in the AAA book

    Maybe Glenview

I don't know how rare, but I have never seen another, my dad has a 31 Graham Paige three window...they looking very Chrysler, Dodge like as the same designer worked for both as I thought I read..

  17. Had just finished delivering to Wal~Mart when I spotted an oldie in the lot. I can usually spot the make, but this one had me stumped. It was just restored, and the shop was out taking pics when i drove by. Turns out it was (is) a 1940 Marmon V12. I know, Marmon wasn't in business in 1940, but Howard Marmon had had this one built from a shortend V16 and a custom body. The only one made, ever. Sadly, I did not have a camera, a fact I regret to this day.

Rare(ish) cars I have owned: CXA 25GTi (Americanised Citroen CX25GTi) around 400 imported.
1968 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 9 passenger sedan (850 built) with every option offered except rear seat heater. I had the dealer order guide, so knew exactly what was offered.
1974 Bel-Air 454 4 dr. NOT a former squad, ordered by someone that way (COPO order code).
Harley-Davidson KR750. A streeterised racer (barely). Somewhat loud. No, actually very loud. And very fast, for a 45 inch flattie.

A 1908 Velie Horseless Carriage at a nearby farm auction in 1981, only 20 miles where it was originally built in Moline, IL. It had been converted to a horsedrawn carriage at some point but was still complete and had it's original engine and radiator still intact. It sold for $600 and was eventually restored and displayed at the former Velie Mansion in Moline. By 1910 they were building true "automobiles" and in the 20's also built a small plane called the Monocoupe, Velie was a grandson of John Deere.

not really an orphan make, or particularly old, but we have a 1968 Dodge Dart GTS in the shop right now. Only 24 known to exist with 383 and auto. Not as rare or as cool as some stuff here, but the rarest I've come across I think, with the exception of the 1 of 1 Pontiac Banshee concept car my shop worked on. I didn't work on it personally though.

Rudebaker...I seen a Velie mell at an auction in Woddhull a few years ago, my Dad bought a 31 Plymouth three window there...there is also a Monocoque plane and a Velie in the lobby of the Quad City airport in Moline Illinois....

  24. That car really is a work of art and probably as rare as hens teeth. As cars go I'm not sure if anything I ever had in my possesion could be counted as rare I did work on a French boddied Bently once owned by Errol(Sp)Flynn when I worked at the Candy Store in the '80s. I aslo tuned and drove one of the Astin Martins from the Movie Gold Finger. But the neattest car there I think was a '19 Speedster. It would run an unheard of 60 MPH flat out on the banger. But in that little bugger you might as well have been joining the 2 club at Bonneville. That little car was just a rush.

I once refurb'd the brakes on a Locomobile (don't remember the year; Nineteen-oh-something?), for a customer back when I was still in the auto repair bidness. It was a looooooong sucker, good think I had a double deep bay at the time., 1991 or so.

A guy I know here in N.C. has a rare 55 Chevrolet. He use to have about 20 Nomads but his rare car was the Golden Anniversary 55 Chev Sport Coupe. Iv'e seen the car and the firewall tag etc. and to the best of my knowledge its the real car. They made a bunch of 4-door sedans with gold paint and all. This as far as I know is the car on the parade float that went thru Detroit ?during the Chevrolet Golden Anniversary in 55. They only made one sport coupe with gold paint and gold plated trim, and he has it.The last time I talked to this guy was 20 years ago, he already had some of the trim replated gold and he was collecting info on it. It had a weird title and firewall tag. I need to get in touch with this guy again because we never see him at shows too much any more, hell, I even forgot his name!At least its the rarest 55 Chevy.Somebody on HAMB might know him.He keeps a low profile and dosen't brag about it to anybody!:D

My dad has both a 1935 huppmobile and a 1935 desoto airflow . Maybe not super rare I think it kinda unusual for one person to have such two odd rods.He also has a Diamond reo cab over truck that in the 1940s
