what is the rarest car you have come across

I started on a restoration of a 1934 Chevy deluxe. Yeah I know not rare but this one is. Its 1 of 11 cars built on a mock assembly line at the worlds fair in 1934. it has a tag on the dash reading" A century of change worlds fair 1934". The owners father bought the car from some locals who drove it home in 1934. Its all original and the doors close like new. the wood is totally solid it almost makes you sick. Unfortunately the current owner lost a sizeable amount in the recent stock market downfall. so it remains unfinished and in storage. Its up for sale... When I was a kid we used to go to a bicycle museum in Holyoke Mass that was free to the public and usually left open but never anyone around. In the garage they had a 1901 Knox on display and we used to sit in it and wonder about all the places it might have been. Maybe it never went far though since they were built in Springfield Mass. Another rare one is the Jomar racecar on my avitar pic. The pic was taken at Daytona in 1959 and the guy on the far right is my dad. There were 5 of this version built in a small garage in Manchester NH to compete against the factory team cars and they did fairly well. They were later bought out by TVR.

 

Im new to the forum Ihave a 33 REO 3 window coupe its pretty rare I havent seen any at any car shows

 

My aunt 's neighbor had a '25 Rickenbacker sedan in unrestored #2 condition in his garage. He also had many other desireable cars which sat outside for years with the usual deterioration. The coolest was a '34 Lafayette (made by Nash) 4 door sedan ... blind quarter with suicide rear doors and the stock top looked as if it had been chopped at the factory. I first saw it in the early 60's and it would have been an excellent project car. I saw it again, sitting in the same spot , 20+ years later and it was pretty much rotted into the ground. Damn shame.

 

my 1947 Autocar...three wheeler...

 

actually had the opportunity to drive a german 3 wheel mesherschmidt made in late 40's. its like a fighter plane . next would be a 555rsk porsche spider at watkins glen n.y. it would pull g-force with four cyl. air cooled engine .95-to125 hp. it was titled the "giant killer' as it beat all the biggest names in racing.thanks to a late good friend don yenko, of chev fame. I was allowed to take the car on lap for fun. rich memories. don was friends of the penskie family.

 

This was my dads car and we searched for years to find another, Never found one.

Somewhere I have pictures of Qusay Hussein's (One of Saddam Hussein's psychopathic son's) older model Mercedes Benz SL 500. It has a cathode ray type TV in the dash and gold plated everything. I could have bought it for 5k, but there was one problem... It was in the heart of Baghdad in 2007, one of the most volatile times for that city.

 

A Pope Hartford last fall and a Case earlier in the year all original..the Pope was like it came off the assemble line.

 

the lady that helped my mon do spring cleaning used to come to or house in a bmw isita 3 wheel car. the whole front opened to get in an out. just seen one sell big bucks. she drove it because it was cheep. figure that! jim

 

Was working for a farmer and in the back 40 found a chopped top 50 Merc a henry J and a Cosworth Vega (the vega was under a grain trailer top.) would they sell, hell no. They belonged t his mom that would not sell them. There was also a 37 Chevy 1 1/2 ton welding truck and a few other cool vehicles. Oh and a 47 Chevy car with the body cut in half and a piece of plywood behind the front seats and a flatbed. I wanted to hotrod it and call it Farmers Ingenuity.

 

i think my 1909 NEWPICK doctors coupe is rare said to be only 6 NEWPICK cars total left but you never know what will turn up

A friend of mine has a 1929 Mercedes Benz SSK 7.1 liter. We chopped the top and channeled it. Yea, anyone can own an ultra rare car but only a real man can cut one up.

do you have any pics of car? i bought some 5 spoke mags wheels with a strange off-set reportedly used on a car called "dragonsnake" would love to have some confirmation.

 

Before moving south in '95 from western NY, an old friend of my father's, and owner of the local service station, offered to sell his '53 skylark convertible for $1500. We had no idea of the value then! It was a nice old driver. We probably would have bought it but we were already moving with our '68 vette in tow, and hadn't bought a new house yet. We're both sick when we see ebay or BJ auctions!

 

I was fixing a flat on my Sunbeam Alpine beside the road one sunny day, pounding the spinner on my wire wheels the wrong way with my lead hammer, and cursing at it for not coming off... when over the rise came the chrome pouting lips of a baby blue Kaiser Darrin. The guy pulled over, and got out to lend me a hand, and I about lost it when I saw his door SLIDE INTO THE FRONT FENDER. The small white convertable top had been unsnapped from the windshield frame, and folded back under the remaining top, making a half shell soft top. I was too stunned by seeing this thing, that when he went over to my Alpine, and smacked the spinner the CORRECT way, and it spun off, I couldn't make a more amazed look.....

How many out there have seen a Tucker? how about a front engine one? Yeah... sad to say, it was at the premier of his movie in Seattle, and when the show was over, everybody came out of the theatre to see a gold Tucker sitting at the curb, all roped off. Well the first thing any of us MotorHeads is going to do is look under the rear end..Right?. Sadly, I saw a G.M. 10 Bolt. when I ran around to the front, there was an oil pan. The story I was told is some previous owner lunched the engine, and had no way of replacing it, so he had a conventional drive train fabricated in. But Hey...It was still on the road.

I was out in California and I was getting a tank a gas, I was watching the gas station attendant in my rear view. He must've been a porn actor, because just before he finished, he pulled the nozzle out of the tank and sprayed it all over the trunk of my car.

Call B.S. if you want, but found an early Shelby Cobra (not the 427 version) in a junk yard in Lubbock Texas. I was 15-16 in 1979 and didn't know what it was until many years later. I noticed it because it had an alum. body and a V8. It had no wheels, heads and intake gone, interior trashed, beat up etc. My friend went there to buy a International KB2 and this car was next to it. My friend showed me the polaroids recently that he took when he bought the truck in 1979, and there sat a Cobra right next to it. Someone may know of the car, it was just off the road to Reese AFB in Lubbock, Tx. The wrecking/junk yard was cleaned up in the early 80s. Had I known then...

 

For the last 60 years the biggest selling cars down here are Holdens ( think G8 Pontiac). Went to a shed once and checked out a '48 Holden- body # 21. One of the ones with factory ex- army blanket type upholstery . Nice straight car too.

 

my dad came home with a muntz jet granddaddy painted it in his driveway with orange laquer.had white interior,big lincoln motor.man i hated to see that one go!no matter where you went people gotta ask...?

By "come across" I assume you mean cars you own, I have my '63 Flxible Electra hearse, which is one of 88. As soon as I can get it from Jersey to Kentucky I can start the desecration.

 

My great uncle had a 1928 Buick hearse left on his cattle ranch out in the middle of South Dakota, near Isabel. Got left there in the early '40s I think. I used to play around in it when I was a kid, determined to buy it when I was old enough. Unfortunately, when it was up for sale at his estate sale I had NO money. Car sold for $425. Makes me sick to this day. That would have been a great hot rod!

 

How about a 41 willys with the stock firewall
