Mine was $3500 in 98. Didn't need any patch panels, but I did put quite a bit of work into getting it straight. Included the doors, cowl vent and frame, but no deck lid or garnish moldings.

In my opinion, it just depends on what you like to do. If you like beating metal, you should grab it.

A friend of mine always says . . . "You can't make a cupcake out of a dog turd."

It probably could be built, but it will never be as nice a car as a solid original. Keep looking, they're still out there.

I sold my '34 5 window body last year at the Pamona Roadster Show for $2000.00 that had no doors and had the trunk and most of the rear quarter panels cut to make into a pickup body sometime in its past. Keep in mind if it has all of the window mouldings these can go for almost as much as the body in good condition.

I hope you bought it. That thing is well worth a couple grand, especially if the frame and garnish moulding come with it. I to bring home P.O.S all the time . That is what make it fun. Being able to build something from nothing and then rubbing it in to the ones who told you "your crazy that thing is junk." I find my self all the time build something or fixing something because someone told me I couldn't.

Oh yeah I can say this if I seen that car I would not have been wasting any time not getting it. I just bought a Model A Vicky for a $1000 and drove 5 hours one way to go get it. It is a worst pile than this coupe. But I have always wanted a Vicky and I could not afford to buy a decent one. So just like you I buy what I can afford and rebuild them.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat..even if you don't do anything with it right away. You'll never lose a dime on this and I predict the value will increase faster than most other "investments" in the next few years !!
Plus it's cool.., you can repair it a little at a time, and if you do good work, the value will skyrocket. Chopped 5W on eBay now @16k and reserves not met...........BUY IT. or pm me where it is:cool:

...not to hijack, but got this 34 Vicky for sale, my wife thinks its worth $8000, I don't know, that coupe don't sound too bad for $2g's if the ch***is is mostly useable, after all it is a coupe. The Vicky is probly rarer, but does have a matching ***le, all garnish (rear one is rusted on ends), but needs floor, door bottoms, lower patch panels. Has a very nice c***is.
...If you got the coupe you could just make it solid, and fix it up to drive and work on different areas as you find the parts/ time; I've seen stuff as bad saved. Good luck if you buy it.

Sam, How about getting it and building a period stock car out of it? You wouldn't have to have it perfect, just roughed in body in flat paint would do it. Make some patch panels yourself (they don't have to be perfect for this application). Then throw a decent running drivetrain in it and put a couple of numbers on the doors. You wouldn't need the expensive grille. hood, garnish mouldings, bumpers, etc, just a cowcatcher and some tin over the engine. Some pipe bumpers and kick out bars in front of the rear tires and your in. Put it up for sale and look for a better one. In the meantime your getting some experience with this model body that will help on the "keeper".
I've watched what you can accomplish in a short period of time and I can see you roughing out a stock car body with little effort. Then sell the thing to finance a solid foundation for a keeper. Hell, if I lived near you I'd be over with my medium sledge hammer and give you a hand.:D

That's a real good idea. I was also gonna mention that the garnish moldings (if intact) are probably worth a grand in fair shape. Sounds crazy, but if you've ever tried to buy them....

Sam, buy it and post it for sale here (with a small profit, say 10%) and see who steps up with cash and then actually finishes building it. That would be interesting to see.

I still don't see anyone addressing the lack of good solid metal to work with. Damage can be repaired but pinholed, thin, rust scaled metal should be replaced (or hack it and make it a gl***/kitty hair/mud car on the inside!). Hell, I guess you could make everything from a piece of flat sheetmetal from scratch. But do you want to? You younger guys may have more time to do the impossible but still there is only so much time anyone has to do this stuff. Why waste your considerable talent and time on this one?

I've always learned when my gut tells me to walk away, there is a better deal around the corner.

We all have the same problem of seeing what a car looks like done, not what it actually is. Just some have it worse than others. Have enough projects like this one, and you will eventually be cured of that.

If I did buy it,it would only be parts for the one I have. The bottom of mine is solid....the top and right quarter is not. SO Sam have you bought it yet?!?!?!

15. My former job gave me a great insight as to what folks will pay for Model40 parts. If you disected that car by drilling out spotwelds and carefully unbolting you could prob help 12 guys repair theirs! Header panel, inner doors, body braces, exterior sheetmetal taken apart at the seams..............I Ebayed all of them. To many happy guys since most of that **** is just hacked outta the cars they are trying to save.
