In the world of these cars when they were new, the term was "VALANCE"
Anything other than that is is not politically correct. As if we care. But valance is the correct answer to the gentleman's question.

Bingo!!! It's my car pictured and I left them on for the era of build. And to cover the brake rods and frame a bit. Personally I love them on there and the way they look. To each his own I suppose!

Oh, also I saw it mentioned about saddle tanks. I don't have them, but I could see why you'd want to cover them up. And the car is a '30
