1958 Dodge Coronet. 325 V8 , push****on automatic. Runs and drives very good. New radial tires. Recent amateur paint job, not too bad. Interior is ok, older resto job. No a/c, non-ps. Everything works, registered inspected, driven weekly. Very solid underneath, no signs of rust. Texas car. I am seriously considering buying this. What is a fair price for this in today`s market ?
it's worth 100 dollars less than what the guy is asking. or else he won't sell. the price is on the windshield.
Asking price $6950, but I will not pay that. I am wondering what an unbiased opinion will say it`s worth.
Looks pretty good to me.. If he's is asking $6950, I'd say try to get it for 6.. or maybe $5500. Or if you really want it, pay his price. a running driving good looking car is hard to find for much less. If you are looking to flip it, that is another story.
IMHO that's all the money for that car. The extra doors really kill the value of those 50's finned mopars. It's a cool car though and it would get tons of looks. If it has been for sale for a while, make him an offer. All he can do is say no.
Upon reading the description, $6000 came out of my mouth. Seems like the guy is asking a fair price at $6950. Obviously there will be some negotiation. So why wouldn't you pay his asking price? Is the quality inferior or is it against your nature? If it is against your nature to pay the asking price, then you will miss out on some good deals during your lifetime.
The story is --- I can buy the car for way less than asking price, but I have to convince the wife that I can unload it quickly should she or I happen to lose job or something. Quick sale at $4000 ??
Old Cars Price Guide values for '58 Coronet 4 dr sedan 1. $18,700 2. $13,090 3. $8,420 4. $3,740 5. $2,240 6. $750
here we are at the H.A.M.B. roadshow, today we'll have all kinds of appraisals. tonight we come from Lake Texoma. now donate to your local PBS station....
at $6950 seriously you can't go wrong... it's an investment!! Just make sure the floors aren't rotted out!!!
Just lie and tell her its a super rare Blah blah blah, and the guy doesn't know what he so on and so forth...
If you've got the money to spare right now on the flip, then do it. If you don't have the money to spare, or you're gonna depend on a quick sale, then don't! Just that easy.
if the floors are solid, and everything else is in good shape, drivable, brakes, engine ****** etc. I would offer about 5500 and go from there, with cash in hand. ALTHOUGH,,, for his asking price, it is a steal in my book. Who gives a **** if it has 4 doors? I think saving anything we can now a days is better than turning **** away, and letting it get s****ped or traded off on some stupid ***ed ECO tripping dip**** environmentalist organization who wants every car off the road if it is not made from some sort of recycled ****, and runs on batteries(which by the way, kill our environment more when they have to be discarded than any old car any of us drive daily) buy it, love it, drive the piss outta it. Wife?? well if she doesn't understand, then I can't help you there. Mine still doesn't care what I drive as long as her car is in tip top shape.
I'm a big fan of Forward Look Mopars, and I try to follow them. Recently I saw a nice all black '57 or '58 Dodge 4 door sedan in about the same shape as this one sell for $6500. If you can really buy it for $4k, you'd be crazy not to. I don't think you'd have trouble re-selling it to recoup your investment at that price, or even $5K.
OK. I`m buying it. I`ll post up more pics after I get it home. You will not believe the selling price.
I would agree. It is pretty hard to just unload a four door. I know some guys think they are cool but when it comes down to it no one really chooses a four door over a two door. CheaterJack
if i think i remember correctly, the poly headed 325, if you have a complete top end from a 325 Hemi it should all bolt on. Heads intake and so forth. Turn your poly into a hemi....
It's a 4 door Dodge its not even worth anything to a restorer. If it runs and drives and you can use it for daily transportation its worth about a grand. That's about what a good daily to and from car is worth. But being what it is it certainly isn't hot rod fodder and it wouldn't make a good custom either.
Where are these $1000 daily driver 50's cars you speak of? I would like to buy one. As for not worth anything to a restorer, you need to check out how many of these cars do get restored, ForwardLook.net has a pretty big membership and they're not all 2 door hardtops either. Seems like a lot of smoke-blowing going on in this thread.
