I was told by the person I'm buying this from that it is a 27 Model T, is it a hacked up Touring, Roadster minus Trunk or Pickup minus bed? And the cowl has been pretty much cut off and the firewall moved back. Need to know what it is so I can find doors, a windshield and a cowl. Thanks in advance guys.
I was also wondering if someone could photoshop it for me. I would like one version with tires under fenders, one RPU style, and one Modified Roadster style. All of them as low as possible, keep the patina or suede blue. Thanks, I would really appreciate as I need some Ideas.
i think it is what is left of a hacked up touring car the back half any way because the front of it in the one photo that is part of a roof would make a cool little modified with alot of work
That's what I thought the first time he sent me pics. I'm thinking I'll throw my 29 Chevy Cowl and firewall on it, throw in my 30 chevy dash, cut or pull out most of the firewall it's got now and build or maybe buy some doors and turn it into a modified or a neat little RPU. It won't be totally traditional but I can always build another how I want later.
At least that clears it up that it's NOT a model T, I'm getting it for $100 so it was reasonable, and I made the offer. I know it's part of some kind of car, just haven't figured out what yet, and I may not either, maybe it was a sedan and someone cut off the roof, I know now that's what they used for a cowl and firewall. I just knew it looked to be in good shape and that I could use the back of the tub and door frame area if nothing else.
My guess is that some proud grandpa made his grand kids a pony cart out of old car parts. Most of them used bicycle tires and a homemade straight axle. I'd make a trailer out of it and pull it in parades.
I agree with you, like from the haunted house or something. The firewall looks too much like where your feet go to be much else.
It is NOT an amusement park ride. I think it's funny shit though. Ant the firewall, look close, part of it is a roof, probably from the same car the back half is, either way it'll be a cool modified roadster when I'm finished with it.
Man, I could see a hot rod when I picked up the rusted old beat up cowl I'm gonna use on this thing, now the cowls fixed and looks even better, once I get it home I'll take some pics with the cowl up against it and sitting on the frame with motor and trans and everything mocked up, you'll see it.
If I had to guess, which I am, I would say Dodge. When my Dad worked at Yellow Cab here in San Diego, they used to have a totally restored touring Dodge Taxi, but they had a parts car in the back and damn if it did not look something like that. Very short sides from what I remember. Make a Pedi-Cab or a Trike out of it! Color Me Gone!
Looks like yard art to me. Put some lights on it at Christmas.... one horse open sleigh ! Needs some ski's though.
So far daddy fink is the only one to take an actual stab at this, and yeah it may look like yard art or a sleigh, or amusement park ride or whatever now, but If you could see whats in my head for plans, you'd crap!
I also agree, the "cowl" is part of a roof. Someone made a pony cart from the leftovers from a doodlebug conversion, I would say. Unfortunately, the window frames and shapes would be the best way to ID it, when I had to ID that 32 Plymouth "cab" the rear window shape helped a bunch. The belt line is pretty plain. About all you can do is get some spotter guides and see what looks close. Even year wise, it could be anything from '25-'34. If the shape of the fenders is correct, that may date it more to 29 or later. A T would have flatter fenders at any rate. You could make a tub with it pretty easy, add a cowl and some tudor sedan length doors. But if you keep it that length and the rear wheels there, it may come out looking like one of those clown cars they pop wheelies with in parades. I've seen as much potential in less than that, I found an A back-half through a buddy that he thought was no good, that I see a possible use for.
The tires won't be where the fenders are now, they will get removed, it will get doors as said before, and the cowl I have in my signature.
Hell if that one guy used a wheel barrow to make a cool open car I know you'll have a OTT ride from this, keep us posted
I've got it narrowed down to either a 28-33 Dodge or a 29-31 Chevy , leaning heavily towards dodge because of snaps for touring car top . Anyone know where to get a spotter's guide?
I finally did enough research to find what it is. It's not a touring car. It is a 1922 Chevy 490 "Center Door" Sedan, or what's left at least. 1922 was the only year for chevrolet to offer the centered doors on both sides of a sedan, hence why they are so short, touring would have been MUCH closer to the fenders. Ford also offered center door model T's but it's definately not a T, wrong bodylines and fenders, and Dodge didn't offer anything with center doors and the doors on their touring cars that look vaguely similar to this are much closer to the fenders also. So there I have it, I now know what it is. I will be picking it up this week/weekend so watch for posts to pop up for my modified build. Will put on frame and take pics then photoshop the hell outta it and see what the reaction is. It IS 1922 CHEVROLET 490 "CENTER DOOR" SEDAN"
Ya see boys and girls.........that's what hot rods are all about. Websters calls it (im-ag-i-na-tion). Look it up sometime.
Chadillac hit the nail on the head but it's coming off and a 29 Chevy Cowl and firewall I've started to rework is going on, Will get some rough mock up picks posted by Friday, going to pick this thing up tomorrow afternoon. Finally More Progress: I've had the frame since February and engine mocked up for a couple weeks, springs and rear axle waiting, possibly getting front axle tommorow. YES!
