Here is an old frame that was converted to a trailer. It's sitting in a lot honestly about 50 yards away from my house and I want to talk to the owner about it. Is it Ford? What year is it? It has parallel leaf springs. The shocks are mounted to the crossmember. My best guess is 41-48, but I don't know much about those years. I know most of you are not running parallel spings in the back, but I plan to build a late 50s style pickup and do not mind breaking from the transverse spring set-up. I do not yet have a frame a figured that at least the wheels, brackets, etc and rear frame rails could be useful if I can get it all dirt cheap. These pictures are the best I could get through the fence. Let me know! [image]http://fedora.net/falconaut/various/trailer/DSCF0007.JPG [/image]
I don't know what it is either. I have a '54 Chevy 1/2-ton frame in my yard, and the frame rails and rear-most crossmember resemble it. However the other two crossmembers are clearly not similar to my frame. That and the 5-lug hubs suggest to me that its not a '50's Chevy pickup frame. Not a lot of help, but every possibility you can eliminate brings you closer to knowing what it is...
yeah, f-100. i would keep it as a trailer and put a bed on it, mount a juke box in it and pull it around the city with the fal****.. -jeff
VIN should be on the top of that middle crossmember, By the looks of the rear, Id say F100 also. Threw me for a minute as crossmember #5 is missing.
Nice one, Jeff. That's a good idea. I'll put some dancing mannequins and crybaby dolls and play disco. Yes, I am hard up for a frame. I would like to find a 32-34 in decent condition, but they don't exist here. I can find Model A frames, but I'm looking for that nice firewall-to-horn curve of the B frames. The rear is not so important because the cab will be channeled and the rear will likely be kicked up and modified anyway. So I figured I could use this as a template at least. If I can at least get the wheels, it would be helpful. Ideally, I frankly wouldn't mind a nice new clean repop frame, but I can't afford that, unless someone here wants to sell me one cheap.
48 to 52 Ford pickup I've got a complete one in the garage I'm building. If your that hard up for half a frame stop by California and I'll give you one that is made into a trailer for free
It is a 1956 Ford F100 frame. Long leafs toward the rear and bayonet style shocks are the dead giveaway. 1955 and earlier had eyelet style shocks and shorter springs.
I put my money on ElPs choice.........I think he knows pickups? Man, if you need a frame build one, hell of a lot easier than modifying an old truck frame. I have about $50 in the 32 style frame under my touring. Use 2x5 or 2x4 tubing cut bend weld.................
what type of cab are you going to run on this? I wonder that the frame would be wider than what you would desire. esp. if you are putting a 32-34 cab onto it. I have no idea though, thats just a guess...
dude,, this is the last thing you want to hear, but at hershey there was a new 34 frame for $800.00 boxed and all. i say just make one out of box tube. it would be way easier than making an old one like that work. i'll keep a look out for something that would work for you.. -j

Keep an eye out for me. I still want to talk to the guy about that trailer only because it's basically abandoned and I can at least use the rims. PS: I should have been more clear about what I am building for those that didn't know. I have a '32 truck body and bed and now need to get started on a ch***is. I will wait to get something more useable. Thanks for all the help. El Pol -- thanks for nailing the year on the head! At the very least, I learned something about F-100s.
