I bought an old pickup trailer for use around the yard. Came with an axle that dates to before the common use of sealed hubs or tapered roller bearings. Everything other than the steering arm and drag link is in good shape so I'd like to figure out what it is so I can get the parts to someone who can make use of them since in all likelihood I'm going to replace it. (I don't think the Packard hub caps mean anything). Leaf springs are about 27.5 or 28" on center. I forgot to get pics of the hub, drum and spindle but it's a 6-lug hub and the steering arm bolt on to the spindle using the same bolts as the backing plate.
Huck brakes are 50 or earlier. That spindle is junk. Chevy 1/2 ton axles were pretty well the same from mid 30's until 1955 First series. On the spindles there was a change in the diameter of the inner bearing ID and inner bearing surface on the spindle from 1.1890 to 1.2801 around 1940/41. spring centers (were the pin fits in the hole in the axle was 26-13/16 from mid 30's untill 55.1
Huck brakes? That's not my spindle, just an equivalent one because I forgot to take a picture. Mine are fine seeing as the important parts have been living in grease for the last 80yr.
six I'm like 99.9% sure it's the aforementioned Chevy axle. I haven't been back to where I parked it since and I won't be back for another couple weeks so no additional pictures.
