I'd like to buy this model a but need a little help. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...1980&ih=001&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&viewitem= It didn't meet the reserve at $1850. The seller wants $2500 Is it worth it? Seems like for a little more money I can get a much nicer body. My plan is to build a 60's styled 30 or 31 coupe on deuce rails. So from this car I can possibly use the rear end, some of the front suspension, and the body. It's close and affordable so I will have a little money left to buy a frame and finish my drivetrain. I'm confident I can fix the rear end damage but is it really worth it? Is it worth $2500 I was thinking more $1500 to $2000 originaly. My judgement is a little cloudy right now, I just sold both my dirt track cars and the garage is empty. I need to get a project going before I not only go nuts but before my wife gets any remodeling ideas for my play money. Can I get your opinions to help make my mind up? Am I just being a cheap bastard? If you know of a nice 30 or 31 coupe body close to me feel free to pm me
I think anything more than 1800 would be pushing it but you do have a motor rear end and a frame and grill plus more. so maybe 2000 isnt that bad but its your money and your car and they arent making anymore of those soo......
Well, the body doesn't look that great, but there is a lot there. It's hard to find anything these days, so I wouldn't gripe over a few-hundred dollars. I'd go for it.
Buy it before you end up with new drapes. Took me and the hubby more than a year to find us a coupe. We cut 2 trees out of ours and paid $100.00 for the body only and word got out before we were home and we recieved a call with an offer of $4000.00, so I would say, bite the bullet.....................
There is something about that car..............................?????????????? I think its a good deal, but I am in Australia. Does not look like an olds 80's street rod to me.......hhhmmmmmmmmm
Naaaah, there's nuthin' wrong with yer thinkin! A straighter body would be much easier to build up. And really worth the initial bucks. Bargain price, maybe, but hours upon hours needed to bring it back.
Funny side note: a guy I know stopped to plow my driveway last night, he came into the garage to have a beer when he was done. Couldn't believe there was nothing in the garage got to talking to him about this car I wanted. He's pretty sure he picked this car up when he was driving flatbed in the early eightys after the wreck. Small world huh
2500 to 5000 for a decent body has been the going price .Cool shit cost money .Looks like you would get some parts to help make at least one car .My 2 cents
That car has what looks like an original Deuce grille shell, possibly chopped. And, you get an extra pair of coupe doors, quarters, and cowl sides with it, plus a frame. $2500 seems cheap for that, to me. That grille shell is worth some good coin, the extra coupe doors are gold for resale, a rolling frame is worth something, especially if it was well built for it's time, and a little history of it being a rod "back in the day" certainly doesn't hurt either. I don't think that's a bad price at all, for what's there.
There's a lot of tin there to build a decent car. And as said, probably enough leftover to generate a few bucks towards what you'll need towards completion. Why don't you just contact the guy to see it in person, bring along something close to what you want to spend and what he wants and go from there. There is an advantage when stuff is nearby and comes with a lot of extras.
Man... $1800 is pushing it. There's a GREAT 30/31 tudor shell out here with a filled roof for 2k. Needs nowhere near the amount of work that basket case needs.
Add it up: Orriginal dropped axle- 300.00 Hydrallic front brakes- 200.00 Orriginal 32 shell- 250.00 King Bee lights- 100.00 "patinad" aluminum headlight stands- 100.00 Frame- 200.00 windshield frame- 100.00 split wishbone- 100.00 front spring- 50.00 pontiac tail lights (one lense broken) 50.00 302 core- 100.00 or more depending what year it is Lets say the extra quartes/doors/cowl sides are worth 300.00 a side- 600.00 Thats 2150.00 right there. So your body would be somewere in the 300-500 range if you sold off some of the shit with it. I bet if you wanted ONLY the one body, you would MAKE MONEY on the deal by the time it's said and done
Prices are off the top of my head and most a little under current value I would think. Just a guideline to show how it all adds up
mate, if you don't wnt it at that price, let me have the guy's number. even with shipping it's not bad
Id say if he's including the two extra sides and you know how to work with metal to repair it, then do it, if you dont.. pass... dont bite off more than you can chew. Anthony
I'd say if it's close enough, go take a look at it and take cash. If you like what you see in person make an offer and be ready to back it up. Cash talks.
Update Well I got it. Seller finally got back to me with a second chance offer. $1826. I'll get some pics when I get home, leaving to go get it now. Thanks for your opinions everyone. Tim
Hey I was watching that one too, susposed to be right on Rt.5 but you know that now. Where you from anyhow ?
definately post some pics of you picking it up and bringing home baby lol will make a great "build thread" i cant wait to see what you do with all that metal work! congrats also, sounds like you got it for what you were willing to spend.
One last update before I start a build thread. I got the car home thursday night. I had to be in for 3rd shift all weekend and between a nasty couple of days of snow storms, my tractor breaking, and work my only goal was to get it home and in the garage. Was white knuckle driving on the way back as it was, then 10 miles from home a deer runs out infront of me. Terrible driving conditions and a loaded trailer behind me there was no swerving, poor little guy didn't make it. Luckily there was very little damage. My buddy that went with to help load it ended up buying the 29 plymouth sedan that he had listed. I would have bought that one too if he didn't want it, it was super solid despite the pictures and had all the parts. This guy had one hell of a collection of cars 17 and 12 of them done. Mosty fat fendered 40's street rods but there was a beautiful 31 coupe in the garage. He had a 41 ford on the trailer for sale and a couple muscle cars. The car was about what I expected from the pictures. I was happy to find a very nice set of stewart warner gauges in the Merc? dash. There are some really neat low back buckets I will be re-using Any Idea what they are? First thing I need to do before I start tearing into it is to Buy a hamb alliance, second is order all the patch and replacement panels I'll need, third is locate a nice firewall and a decklid anyone repopping these? or selling feel free to PM me. IBB41 - the car was in silver creek about a mile from the intersection of rt 5 & 20 really nice guy. Popo - Between the dark and trying to get home before my buddys wife snapped there really was no time for pictures. Lets just say it involved come alongs, ratchet straps, chain, a large pipe, a bunch of 2x4's, frozen fingers and busted knuckles. Here are some pics if I can remember how to post them.
Nice score, I saw that on ebay a few months ago and I think he way asking quite a bit more for it. Hopefully us WNY'ers will get a chance to see it out and about soon.
Here's that shot of mine. If any of the stuff is any good after sitting outside for 20 years, as they said, I think you got a great deal. It's already got doors, a front end, a rear end, etc. I'd say you did great. I paid $1000 for mine for what you see. Only came with a driver side door. Finding a passenger side door (that I could afford) took me a year. Good luck Pete
