Man, we live a block from a pretty busy 4 lane street, last year I was watching this one run across the street. He was doing pretty good dekeing and dodging, got 3/4 of the way across the third lane, and changed his mind...:(

I too fed the Buzzards this morning by ruining a Squirrels day. Why do they get within a foot or so of making it across the street then turn back and run under the truck?

  13. I was way late to the party thinking bumper and then read to the end to finally decide that couldn't be the right answer.

Well, if you want a challenge, here's a frame that's been kicking around our yard longer than I've been alive that the ACCA guys couldn't identify. My grandfather cut it in half to make a drag for the lane. It's early last century, had wooden wheels, right hand drive, carbide lamps and dual front leaf springs. No clue what the rear suspension looked like since all that is left is some strange little brackets. No numbers or insignias anywhere. 033.JPG

I'm late to the party but think due to the v in the gravel pan, this was from a mid '50s Willys Overland-a-sister vehicle the Jeepster had the flatter grill front.

is that type of headlight support very common on early cars?

    Good work Squirrel

The dust of the snappy identification had already
settled but I thought this cool machine has the right idea...

Good question... I'm not sure... I was looking at the strange headlamp...I would have expected one that shape to be made out of brass in that era... this one doesn't appear to be...

Some guesses have focused around early Nash or McLaughlin/Buick, but nothing confirmed. Wheel track would be about 58 1/2", and my best guess at the wheelbase would be around 98" long. Hard to tell with the back suspension gone and no bump in the rear crossmember. I'd guess it had 2 semi eliptic springs out back with the rear slightly behind the frame rails. The only casting number I've found on the car is on one spindle... oddly enough on one, but not the other. It's very hard to read and I might have it wrong, but I think the number is SA-2882-53 with a little 4 (or a spruce tree?) in a circle after it. It had no front brakes, 2 leaf springs on the front and wooden wheels. Originally I thought with the 6 gaps that the wheels would have 6 spokes, but after searching around, it seems they were most likely 12 spoke wheels with 2 spokes per gap.

The flatter grille vs the vee'd grille is model year difference, not body type difference.
Willys wagons, pickups and Jeepsters all had flatter grilles initially, then in '50 or '51 all got the vee'd grille.

You could be right... I'll have to see if I can dig up a better pic of that rear frame and see kind of suspension was attached to those clips. The sheet metal is very primitive and squared as you show. Hard to tell if the headlights are right from the way they are mangled, but it also makes sense that a non-brass lamp would have a brass ring for that era. The one on the right side appears to be brass, but maybe they were just plated thin?

that's a different headlight than yours. I looked at a few pics of cars from the teens, that style of headlight mounting is very common, so you have to look at the details....which are different...

I wonder if there was differences between the McLaughlin and the Buick... kinda like Ford v.s. Mercury type trim. That dual buggy seat type spring on the back makes sense with the lack of bracketry.

Or maybe we need to think older. The 08 Model F has the funnel shape to the front of the lights, but the front axle is too straight. Buick model_f_02.jpg

The bumper could be off a 1950 or 51 Jeepster they had the V shaped grille.
All Willys Wagons, pickups, and Jeepsters had the flatter front nose from 1946-1949, then they all went to the more V shaped one for the 1950 production year and there after.

They only made Jeepsters from 1948-1951, (the 51's were actually re-titled 1950's)
