    The wooden bumper cars were the first ones produced after the war. These were 1946 models, produced in late 1945. Some cars were delivered without bumpers and without a spare tire because of shortages. They had wooden planks for bumpers, painted black. In the trunk was a bare rim.

    After a couple of months the buyer got a letter from the dealer who sold him the car, he returned and they installed the proper bumpers and spare tire.

    The black and white ad probably appeared in early 1945 when they were clearing out stocks of 1942 models, right before the 1946s went into production.

    A bit of trivia for Oldsmobile followers and others.
    • Oldsmobile production ceased on 5th February 1942 due to WW2;
    • Japan surrendered to US on 14th August 1945 with post WW2 Oldsmobile production commencing on 15th October 1945; and
    • A United Auto Worker's strike prevented 1946 Oldsmobile production from 21st November 1945 to 1st April 1946.

    She might look awkward now, but when she gets her braces off, she'll have a real purdy mouth.

    For some reason, I've been getting model car catalogs from Fairfield Collectibles. Image my reaction when I spotted this 1/43 scale 1942 Oldsmobile 98 B-44 Sedanette model they were selling for two payments of $99.99. I guess this Oldsmobile was more popular than I thought. The model is "Handmade in England" .....
