That’s called a roll pin punch.

I just found a nut splitter among the tools I inherited from my dad. It's over a year since he passed and I'm only getting to sorting out the tools now.

Well you might as well throw out all your old junk wrenches seeing as this is "The only wrench you MAY ever need"... Great

Now those two I can clearly see would work for a bolt/nut with the 60 degree angles. That’s what had me scratching my head about the first pic from the OP. I was thinking it was for some special purpose.

I many times see tools as aids...when you exhaust the standard fair you go for specialty tools which is how I look at this one...it may allow an install or removal to go ahead, even if all that's required is an 1/8 of a turn...

I always say in those instances the tool many times earns it's stripes when this happens.

Another thing this is more than just a nut turner...I can see it used in allen type applications as well...that gives more range for use...it could makes a great tool holder even for punches as long as the item being punched is requiring light blows...

I see it even fitting non hex shaped tools...

That all said I can't recall ever using one...even though I may have one...

It's still amazing the stuff people design to help get the job done...

You folks recall those “”fits all bolt” tools with the flopping head? I forget what they were called, but the owner of the station I worked at had one hanging off the oil change drum.
Was the go-to wrench for pan plugs.

Well the only question I have that hasn't been answered yet is....

Can I still use it as a punch holder? It would get a whole lot more use as a holder vs. A wrench!

They tried to use it as a wrench instead of a chisel holder. Gotta love the many "last tool you'll ever need".

That's so the vice grips don't slip off. not to mention the grooves left on the chisel shank.

That looks like one of those “special“ tools that I look at, consider throwing it away, and then put it in the very back of the drawer, just in case.
