I picked up a dozen or so of these 60s-early 70s era vinyl type "real" bumper stickers (the kind that are a ***** to actually get off a bumper) at a flea market a few years ago. Due to the crossed racing flags, I ***umed it was for some type of Auto or MC product, maybe an oil or gas additive, but some searching of the net' never provided any info. I know Cromwell was the famous maker of the early "Pudding Basin" motorcyle and sports car helmets made in the UK (50s era through the 60s), but nothing I found on that company ever mentioned an "X3" model. So as long as there are a mess of "What Is This" posts, these days, I thought I'd use the HAMB to help solve this little mystery. Anyone know what this stuff / part was?
i think Tuff Tin is right on the money... i PM'd BigJim with what info i got, and decided to post what i found out from a phone call to a great uncle of mine. For what its worth i s'pose , but there ya have it. Viva La HAMB
Thanks for the info. I was guessing it was some type of oil additive. I put one on a rusty spot on my 66 Stude front bumper until a better bumper with no rust I found, gets delivered. People see the bumper sticker ask me what Cromwell X3 is, and I have taken to telling them that it's just the most potent engine lubricant additiver ever made. So good, that the NHRA and NASCAR banned it for race car use in the 60s shortly after it was introduced. Then I ask them if they are interested in buying one of the super rare bumper stickers (that are virtually impossible to find as so few were ever made). No takers, yet.
Ok so going foward everytime somebody is shootin me a line of ******** I will say "hey man dont give me a cromwell" "Dude you must think im some kinda cromwell" "those parts arent n.o.s. they're cromwells"
