Summoning the power of the HAMB! Looking for some info on this old ball valve. Manufactured by Harvill. Don’t have any information other than it appears to still work!
Probably old aircraft surplus with the safety wire and all. Looks to have last been used possibly as a fuel shut off...note the valve handle has a small hole drilled in it. Probably to attach a cable or something to it for remote actuation..that'd be my guess
It looks overbuilt for a car application. But that's not to say it wouldn't be a nice touch featured in an "old" rod.
It is a shut off valve and is probably military surplus. I ran these same valves in the race car in the fuel system. Most everybody did. We always shut the engine off by first running it out of fuel by closing the fuel valve. Sprint cars have to be push started. The procedure was to put it in gear, turn the fuel on (with a valve like the picture), wave the push truck forward, and hit the mag after you saw oil pressure.
Safety wire? I see threaded holes for mounting. With the barbs on both ends, it looks like an in line fuel shut off to me. Oh wait, just got the other pictures! Safety wire it is! Buff it up! Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Definitely made for a low pressure application with it's ******/hose clamp ends as opposed to threaded fittings. That would indicate fuel line vs any type of hydraulic use.
In the 40's there was an H.L. Harvill Mfg. Co./Harvill Aircraft Diecasting Corp. in California that this valve might be connected to.
