Technical What is this?

While at the Comer museum I stumbled across this flat head v8. Can someone enlighten me as to why it doesn’t have any valves? What am I missing here?

If I had to give it a name, I'd call it a "mock block".

If they had left the heads on it, you would have just ***umed it was another old flathead

 

Fenton made a display block similar to that in the '50s ... it was plywood.
