ya se the pipes, ya see the remarks that merely pipes, a bellflower car, do not make....

i'm still kinda curious, have a decent idea in my head, but i still wonder what are elements of historical bellflower style...

    paint schemes and types?

    wheels?

    examples?

  2. These. Any questions?

  3. If you take a look at most watson cars, were what I believe should be true bellflower cars, although he was a bit north of Bellflower, in Maywood. I believe the term came from the guy in BellFlower that would make those pipes. Basically a mild custom, mettallic paint with scallops or flames not a lot but some pinstriping, clean interior, maybe pleated inserts on your original interior. Custom chrome wheels steelies or fiestas and thin whites.

Guys, where does the term "bellflower" come from?

  6. read post above- Bellflower pipes

please note Rader's were not that "in" back then, unless you were George Barris.

  7. oh no. I see a new trend for osr to snatch up and bastardize.

    That would make me sad.

we better stop talking about this before someone catches on.

  8. More. Agree on Radir thing...but a few 60's magazines have cars w/ them.

  9. Specifically, I think "The Clock" Drive In in Bellflower was Ground Zero for the style.

My favorite neo-Bellflower style car has to be Lee Pratt's drop-dead '58 Bel Air with subtle lace paint roof...

  12. Ooh! Ooh! I can't wait to see how the OSR crowd will bastardize this one. You think they fucked up traditional hot rods? Wait till' you see a '71 Chevelle with Torq Thrust II's, pinner whites, a flaked roof, and bellflowers for sidepipes.

  13. Pardon my density, but vas iss das "OSR"?

  14. aint been around east L.A. much, huh??
the OSR crowd would be late to the game.

  15. yeah, yeah, yeah,....
    who's 60 is that???
alot of those details is how i'm a gonna do mine. i would just LOOOOOVE to see some detail shots of the treatment right behind the door (where the little rocket birdie thingy would normally be)!

  16. That '60 Impala originally belonged to one if the Toppers (a HAMBer) from Fargo, ND. I think it's out in SoCal now.

    it did?? Who was that?

  23. I might be going through a case of CRS (can't remember shit), but I'm pretty sure the guy who kustomized it was a HAMBer from Fargo or Moorhead. I forget the fella's name, but I remember when it was for sale a few years ago, advertised on hotrodhotline or dealsonwheels or one of those... my recollection was that it was only around $10-$12k, a bargain given the amount of craftmanship in it.

Sort of an odd story, somebody from California buying a Bellflower custom from North Dakota.

No, man. Javier Mejia built that in the Bay Area. Then it went to SoCal, then wherever else. Wait, we're talking about the purple flake job, right? Angel Dust(ed). Javier also built the lime flake Pontiac. He's the Vato's version of the Fonz.

And what's this shit about Rader's (it was Rader then; Radir now) not being in back then, except for Barris. I know that ain't from "personal historical experience".

  27. CRS it is then. But I swear this Impala -- or one very, very close to it -- was based up in NoDak a few years ago.

That lime green wagon belongs to a car club here in Bakersfield called the Loco Banditos.....bunch of white boys doing 60's customs. You can look them up on the web under Loco Banditos or K-Daddyz Customs.

Could be, but the purple '60 shown here is Javier's old car. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Kustom55 bought it before bailing to TX? Javier also built that orange 'n' gold flake Pontiac Safari. There's an obvious reason why we call him MetalFlake Man.
