Are you talking about the custom? It was all steel with half-tube spokes.

Later in '65 they appear to have dropped the round spoke Custom, and changed the name of the Slotted original to Custom. If they discontinued the round spoke, it wouldn't have been made for very long - and I can't recall seeing them at swap meets in the last 15 years or so. They also came out with an all aluminum one-piece wheel for the first time.

Aluminum "mags" hit heavy in 64-65, and there were copy cat duplications all over the place. As far as Raders being used on high end cars, they were sold as Sears, and Micky Thompson also, and there were a lot of them out there because they were the cheapest aluminum center wheels available.

Yep, that's them. Should'a looked at the ad pic closer. I've seen one for sale in my lifetime.

And it's funny how "aluminum" and "mag" are still used together to describe a wheel. There was a guy that used to work here that would cringe anytime an aluminum wheel was called a "mag". He was a drag racer, so that helps explain, but he is right. Two different metals; two different wheels.

bellflower style cars have been on the verge of being the next cool thing for a long time. it will never get near the level the rat shit rod has gotten to for one reason. to be done right a nice bellflower car will cost more to build than a yard full of rr's. i have done paint work on many cars that cost more than what most folks put in a car. not saying that it has to be a crazy panel paint candies ,flakes, pearls and such but some of thats gonnabe in there. i like to play with pearls as much or more than candies(ok more really). you actually need a little style about you to pull off a nice bellflower influenced car. yes simple can be just as good as wild. i love to take a good stock 60s just about anything do a nice pearl fade so subtle you almost have to look for it. give it a good stance a nice set of wheels and call it done. i'm still in termoil on what the buick will be redone as. i've talked about doing a semi-clone of the green buick from the hot rods and customs of the 60s book several times. even went as far as to get all the paint details from winfield. the wheels would be different and it may or may not be juiced would be the main differences. a metallic sky blue body with some underhanded pearl tricks i've been playing around with with a simple pearl white roof sounds really fun to. we're gonna start digging back into the car in the next few weeks i guess i've got a while to decide. i'm pretty sure the supremes are going to be replaced by skylarks or tru spokes(really sure) and it's coming down a bit more. i think i've decided against the panel job that was photoshopped here that i'll include but who knows i change my mind alot. and i think the '64 cutoff is bullshit. i've had lots of friends get turned away at car shows that would have been best of show cars that were all 65-68 model cars built 60s custom/early lowrider style. again alot of folks don't have the vision to look past the norm and just see a bitchin' car...ken....

hahhaa,,i was drunk..and thought it was funny some people think all you need is "bellflower tips" to have a bellflower custom..
i dont have anything against bellflower tips.,they look cool, but bolting on a set of bellflower tips doesnt make your car bellflower style,,,the tips should be the finishing touch..

i wont put those tips on my car just because of the fact that i dont NEED the tips to advertise or prove anything to anybody..the people that know, know, the people that need to look at my pipes to know the difference are gay and need to stick to Rat Rodding..hahhaa

its like RF said "Not many people get it right, but when they do, it's amazing."

now, back to bellflower style....id say the lee prats 58 IMPALA,the 55 safari, the 60 impala angel dust and (not to brag )my 56, cruisinphillys 65, donnies olds and kens buick are good examples of the "bellflower" style which were actually the L.A. area style of the time,,but i guess refered to as "bellflower" because thats were the CLOCK & harveys were and were they all congregated.. its not like ONLY people in bellflower drove this style of car,,

ok,im done and SORRY if i hurt any of your feelings..
