"I had an old guy give me an old Chevy coupe once. I heard he had some old cars so I went over and asked him about the coupe. He said it wasn't for sale.

I said OK and he wanted to know what I was going to do with it. So I told him.
he said take it. So I did.

Old asshole, I had to give a car to a kid just this year.

I hate people that won't sell stuff."

When one of my nephews turned 16, I gave him a '64 Chevy II wagon for a Christmas gift. It was even a 283/'glide. He drove the shit out of that car, and still talks about it 30 some years later.
Most of the time, it's the approach that can make or break getting something. First impressions mean a lot...

I like the truck, Rich. Check out the Ayala Bros thread and look at their shop truck. Maybe you could spell pigpen out in chromed wrought iron.

I couldn't get the Ayala shop truck pics to come up on my antique computer. Something like this would be nice. Also, I'm thinking of painting the T roadster this color.

I used to have a 63 Dynamic 88 2 door in pretty good original condition.

One day some prick in his mid 60's comes beating on my door at 9:00 in the morning on a Saturday wanting to buy it. The guy was really an arrogant asshole, and basically told me that I was too young to truly appreciate what I had, and that I was practically committing a crime by letting it sit.

I pretty much told him that it was none of his fucking business what I did with MY car, and that I didn't appreciate his condescending attitude. Furthermore, I told him that someone of his age should understand that it's rude to come beating someone's door down at 9 in the morning on a Saturday, since some of us non-geriatrics actually go out on Friday evenings. He got pissy with me and said "you haven't even heard my offer and your already cussing me out!", to which I said "you're a prick, and I wouldn't sell you the car regardless of your offer, so fuck off." At this point he said "I'd be willing to pay you $1500", and I responded "what part of 'fuck off' do you not understand?", and went back inside to sleep off my hangover.

About a month later one of my girlfriend's-friend's-brother asked his sister to inquire about the car. She told me that he really liked the car, but wasn't sure if it was for sale & didn't want to bother me if it wasn't. It wasn't, but I told her to have him come by & talk to me about it anyway. He called first, asked nicely if he could come look at it & thanked me for giving him the chance to buy it considering the fact that it wasn't on the market.

The bottom line is that the kid had very little money, but was very considerate about the whole deal, and he got the car for a grand.

Not that I'm saying that this is the case with people posting here, but sometimes people trying to buy stuff that has been sitting don't realize that they're not getting it because of their shitty attitudes.

I bought my coupe 45 years ago. I get a lot of people asking me if it's for sale because I drive it everywhere. I just put it in my will to give to a kid who used to ride his bike over to stare at it in the street in front of my house. He showed up last year, an ex-SEAL now, and showed me the scrapbook he had made of my car. He's never asked me to sell it because he actually knows what it's worth to me.

That's a nice truck there. I don't like painted running boards because someone will step on it and scratch it and then tell you, well it's a running board, ain't it? Also the owner could be arrested for letting his nuts show. Hubcaps are in order there.

Competition yellow would look bitchen on your roadster. But you have to keep the color you have on the engine, it rules.

My, my, my. We do get passionate about things.

My Mother taught me a couple of things growing up.
    1. Always be polite. Manners and respect will always get you farther than rudeness and disrespect.
    2. Learn the rules where you play. You'll get to play there again.

Those two things apply here. I've learned that.

  9. I think he just had it handed to him. I'm with plan9 on this one.

The whole intro thing probably isn't that big a deal if ya got your shit about ya. Never hurts to know where someone is comming from, but it doesn't take long to figure out on most folks.

That's GREAT! It made this whole thread worth reading, all most.

I have owned my first car since my junior year of high school in 1988. I have had dozens of notes/business cards left on the windsheild, people stopping me while driving and waaaaay to many people knocking on the door asking if it's for sale. The kicker is they always say "how much do you want for it?" I don't know because it's not for sale, I have never advertised it nor does it have a for sale sign. I tell them make me an offer, only once has a guy made me an offer. I actually thanked him, finally someone with enough balls to make a realistic offer. I still have the car, he actually got me thinking about selling it. Who knows if he kept coming by and maybe added to the amount he might be driving the Chevelle know.

I even had one jerk who basically wanted me to give him and his son the car. He told me, "you've had your fun with the car, why don't you let my son have some fun with it."

The fact is, no one bothered to think about the plain and simple fact that I was merely blwoing off steam. Was it worth it? Did it do any good to just throw some BS around,...well obviously not and obviously no one thought about that possibility by the attitudes that were flung at me. Funny thing I see by those who missed point of my initial post is that I have never seen 98% of you guys ever bother to take the time to post in response to any questions I ever had no matter how nice and peachy I was. Think about it. You take soo much time to drive my ass into the ground and hop on the bandwagon to do so, yet never hopped onto the bandwagon to lend a hand? Only about three people if even that who took the time to post here ever had a decent word or anything. Nads was one of them.

Truth be told, whenever I approach guys about anything I am always first and foremost a gentleman and try to befriend them. especially the older ones who more often than not deserve the respect! I get along better with WWII vets and such because I actually have more in common with my likes and dislikes, etc. I never badger people about cars or parts, never raise my voice, and never insult them. If they won't sell they won't sell. But why be all peachy and sweet about it,..it sucks ass and that's the point.

I am not young, i am 29 years old and have a wife and a mortguage. I've been on the rough side of life for years from when I was a kid. We sold almost everything we had twice and barely kept afloat. So I know about the meaning of things and why people sometimes don't want to get rid of things. How strange it is that I don't think many of you took the time to actually finish what I had posted. No one took the time to address "why" I was adimant about getting some parts, etc. and that I have been working as a substitue teacher making peanuts but that I really enjoy being able to lend a hand and help the kids become better men and women. maybe this is why I have som many good relationships and good repors with the kids I am around. I understand why they can get pissed at things, why they blow off steam now and then, and I don't tear them apart for doing so. Pigpen in convinced that I have and attitude, that's fine, but before he tries to get the spec out of my eye he needs to sit back and get the log out of his own eye. Ask yourselves just why you couldn't resist jumping all over my ass and taking the opportunity to "Assume" so many things about me that weren't even close to reality but simply conjured up by creative minds looking for an argument?

To say the least I've been totally surprised by you guys. I haven't been around very long on here but I'm sad to say that I would have expected you guys to have better things to do with your time than to repeatedly pull things out of thin air and assume things about me to make yourselves feel like bigger and such better men than I.

If you wonder why I said what I said,....ask. Though I would have easily guessed that anyone who read it would have seen that it was just a guy blowing off steam. I sure hope people aren't as pathetic to you guys as you've been to me.

I think that those old guys that collect shit outbid me everytime I try and buy fenderskirts for my '62.
I HAVE NEVER SEEN SKIRTS ON ANOTHER '62, SO WHAT THE F@CK DO THEY WANT THEM FOR?
I'd like to beat them about the face and head those skirts that I just know will end up as part of their overpriced swapmeet arsenal.
PS> I have all my '62 trim(side,emblems,etc.),'62 dogdish hubcaps, and some real chrome iron cross side mirrors if anyone wants to buy them-I don't want to become the enemy:rolleyes:

    "....let the bitching commence! lol"

Ya know, you really shouldn't tell us to do something, and then complain when we do it. :D
You started the thread, and finished your post with the above quote. What did you expect? It's not like it's never been discussed here before, and the response was identical to the last time (except for the wonderful introduction, or lack of, by Gash.) If you feel the need to let off steam, and you're not actually stating how you feel, then maybe you would be better off not hitting the SUBMIT button after you type it out. If you can't refrain from posting it, then dont complain if everyone doesn't agree with you.

it had nothing to do with anyone agreeing with me,.....there was nothing to agree or disagree with. what became of it was an outpouring of belittlement by lots of guys with to much time on their hands that have nothing better to do. if everyone bashing me is so much better than me than why even take the time out to type anything at all?

the fact is when you and everyone else realizes that the point of the initial post was missed the only thing left to do was to drag on and bitch,....at me. i said let the bitching commence,...not let badgering, belittlement and insults. What was there to insult really in the first place??

its all just to rudimentary to understand i suppose. all this has been proof that it is.

  18. Sorry that you got your feelings hurt. We're a crude and rough bunch on here. My point is that you might be catching shit because some of us are plain wore out with people asking if we want to sell what we want to keep.

For what it's worth, I sincerely hope you are not teaching English.

PS: At 29 years of age, you sort of ARE a kid in this hot rod deal. Tell ya what, I'll watch for your next few posts. If you ask anything that I can help with, I'll post something positive. If you'd've been on here longer you would have known to don your asbestos suit before bringing this dead horse for all of to beat. You're not the first one to get flamed and you won't be the last.

Now go in the garage and do something worth the HAMB's time.

Dude, I've already contributed too much to the problem and not the solution, but I'm gonna take another crack at it. IT'S JUST THE INTERNET, relax. If you can't take a little razzin' your not gonna last long on the HAMB. You need to just
Go Here where all the outcast's and fuckin whinny asses are complaining about us and what meanies we were to them.

Let me explain, when I'm at the HAMB I feel like I'm with bro's. There's thousands of people here, and yet I feel like I'm in the garage with buddies. The HAMB is/has been an invaluable resource(sp?) to me, and is to alot of other people. Sure your gonna get talked a little shit to every now and then, do you not talk shit to your bro's when your just hangin out? Do you want to start a fist fight everytime some one doesn't agree with? You voiced your opinion, everyone else voiced their's. BIG FUCKIN DEAL.

no regarding my "english" its called,.."i'm tryping to damn fast...edit,...edit!!!"

as far as my feelings, its not that they were hurt, the thing that bothered me the most is that i "have" been helped by a lot of cats on here and then seeing all of this really made me loose a little more faith in people. you always try and see the good in things and situations and people just keep fucking you over and over. like with what i posted initially. the fact it in all three situations i mentioned i was as sweet as pie man,....no pissy BS, no pushy shit, just being cool and talking about parts or cars,....its when people mislead or screw with me that i go off,....its when you show them the utmost respect over and over again and they just suck you dry. you guys know what i'm talking about i'm sure,....that is the BS that no one should ever put up with. not even any of the dipshits that just jumped on the ass beating bandwagon in here.

In the end, its all BS and people just need to be cool with each other. all this stuff is gonna rust anyway, ya can't take it with you, so if someone else can make it shine or put good use to it, then so be it. befreind the guy who sells it,...or the guy you sell it to! The guy who I bought my first old truck from (my '50 GMC truck) i told him that I'd let him know how it works out after I get it up and going,...that I'd show him what I did with it for being cool and giving me a good price on it. people need to encourage people, not fuck them over. if someone is being on the level with you about parts or stuff and you know that you're never gonna touch it for the next ten years and you know that this cat talking to you "will" do something cool with it, then what the hell??!! Sell, it and why not even lend a hand to the guy you just sold it to,....?? wouldn't you appreciate it if it were yourself?

THAT IS THE POINT of my post, i had thought that enough of you guys had put up wiht the same BS and that you could "relate," not "retaliate" because in some weird abstract way some of you guys saw my post as somekind of personal attack?? I'm still trying to figure that one out!

ahh,..whatever. and thanks for being on the level with me Chili, i respect that. thanks!

I've been in the hobby for 44 years, never got bent out of shape over some car the owner didn't want to sell, just leave it and find one that is for sale. I've got more than I'll ever finish, never had anyone stop and ask if one was for sale, but have parted with ones to step up to a better one. Attitude is everything, and it doesn't take long to read people, eye to eye or on the internet.

  25. My one buddy has the right idea I think. Put a price on everything. The stuff you don't care about, keep it reasonable. The stuff you don't care if you sell or not, price it what you think it's worth. It's funny how people get so bent out of shape sometimes at an asking price.

So all my stuff can be bought if you wave cash in front of me. But most of that stuff I worked hard to get, even if it was a freebie I had to bust my ass to haul it home. So I am not going to give it away. I've been picking up cars here and there purposely to turn over so someone can save them, but I find usually I end up stuck with them even if I try to make them reasonable. I wouldn't bring home another Ford woodie, for example - I lost count the number of nasty notes I get and stupid offers for like 35 bucks on it, even though half a dozen guys have agreed 3k is about right and I know damn well I could get that out of the parts if I wanted.

Another thing, usually the nasty note guys you bitch back at them a couple times, they start in with the part it out stuff - they want parts, it's just a game. I'm not about to help out someone who just ripped me up and down for what I'm actually trying to sell.

Don't get me wrong, if you can't swing it but can get close, try me.. but if it's way out of reach, look around - I find this shit, you probably can too. I'm not going to get rich off it, but if I can wind up with a couple halfway decent rides and basically no money in them, I'm happy.

At the same time, if I can get enough money on a car/part to make me happy, I have more projects than I can handle and I can always find more junk to mess with.

Thats what turns guys into jerks, too, that won't sell anything, If guys keep offering you $25 for something you can't replace for $250, you're going to start telling them all to screw off. I find that telling them I don't really care if I sell it today, tomorrow, or not at all, helps a lot.

Same thing with this stupid sedan delivery. I bought it to turn over, but it's a real piece of crap - the only way to build it is to replace the whole frame and pans. So I put a price on it with some room to negotiate based on the money and time I have into it instead of what the books say its supposed to be worth. If it doesn't go anywhere I'll just watch for a 90's Caprice wagon with popped airbags that I can get cheap and cut down to the pans and stick this on top of it, and sell it that way. But at least that's one saved.

Hey just so YOU know, you've been a great help to me with all you've done to help me find a cab!! I'm still interested in what you have, just give me some time and I should be able to scrape some cash up to meet you at where you had the price set at. Again if you coud send some pics that would be great. Thanks again.

  29. Jason, You say you show them the "utmost respect" and then you come on here and call them "morons, old as time, can't read for shit, dipshit, super genious". I have a hard time believing you respect anyone. When you vent like that, it's hard for me to "relate" to your post. Perhaps you should think about what you post before put your finger on that submit button!

I know it sucks that they just let it rot away but it is after all their stuff.
They can do what they want to with it.

It's no different than the vintage freaks complaining about us turnin' "old cars" into hotrods instead of restoring them to better than new condition.

We own them, we can do what ever the hell we want to with 'em.
