Years ago I sold an old car to a guy sight unseen, and my wife said "wow,he must really trust you".I told her people in this old car hobby don't usually rip each other off.Unfortunately that is now WRONG!I have got it good a couple of times, and will no longer buy a car without looking at it.No I didn't burn any houses down.It was my fault and my fault only. All old cars should be sold AS IS-I can see in the case of a severe screwing-like spending $25000 and getting a car that's worth $10000 at best-maybe calling the guy to see if he'll help you,but don't be surprised or all mad when he won't.Go see the car, look it over,if you don't know what you're looking at take someone who does. And keep in mind when you get it home and start noticing things you missed-no old car is going to be perfect!!Be happy, you'll live longer.

I should be able to leave my doors unlocked and not worry about someone walking in and robbing me. I should be able to walk anywhere I want and not worry about getting mugged. In a perfect world we should be able to do a lot of things without worrying about something bad coming of it, but this isn't a perfect world, and that is the way you have to treat it. Shame on both of you.

SO let's see if I got this right.

Your profile says you are a "Professional Motorcycle mechanic" and "Troublemaker".

Hmmmmm... I would say you should have known better and you got 'Trouble'. Nuff said.

jusjunk will prolly remember this episode in my life (he bailed me out).
went to an auction that had a bunch of mustangs on the block and i needed an 8" rear for a project.
looked under the back of 'em to see what they had for rears, cool, they're all 8"rs, so i bid on a few, well, they went for more than i wanted to give and it came down to the last one and i won it.

it was about a month when i got around to parting it out and THEN i peeked under it.
    no pumpkin.........

this is where jusjunk came in and offered me a 3rd member for shipping(and i took the offer)

    i owe ya one jus;)

    whats the point?
sometimes a bad deal turns into a good one....

or you can just ship the chicanoline to me...

In the highly unlikely chance that you want to learn something from this...90% of us have been there with you and the other 10% just lie about it. Education costs money. Dumb people never learn and continue to spend money. Don't be a dumb ass...learn from your mistake and take actions to see that it doesn't happen again.

It takes time and experience but after a while you will be able to know before you even look at the car whether the guy is a bullshitter trying to decieve you or just an honest ignorant Joe Blow. Either way your bullshit detectors should be fully employed.

None of us heard the conversations, the price, or the over all condition of the truck so we mostly assume the seller wasn't trying to decieve.

I've learned to take a friend to look at a new project with me. Preferably a Ford guy if I'm looking at a GM and vice versa.

It's been 30 years since that vendor at Hershey swore that the tail light stand I was looking at was for a 36 Ford coupe. It was a 35 sedan.:p 30 years from now you'll remember this truck.

Don't let anyone fool you we aren't living in the 60's anymore when 99% of old car people were honest and helpful.

My guess is he thought the engine was the least valuable thing on the whole truck.

You'll be a better shopper next time. I hope your education wasn't too expensive.

If you are like my teenage son and already know everything...then never mind.

    Wow......

A kid thinks everything that happens that you don't like is someone else's fault. You aren't a kid, get a grip, say Damn!!!, and find another $100 engine to stuff in it. Life is too short to get worked up over a used and abused Ford 6 cylinder engine.

If you label yourself as a troublemaker, don't be surprised if life hands you some lumps. Try a different self-label, like "builder extraordinaire". You'll have more fun...........

If you want a cheap car and a guarantee to boot, go buy a new Kia.

Are you sure about the grapefruit sized hole? I mean did you actually hold a grapefruit up next to it for comparison?

Sweet fuckin' Jesus!! I really opened a can of worms on this one!! How long have some of you guys been waiting here for me make a post and start rippin?

Must be have been a slow Saturday night across the nation. Some of you guys have way too much time on your hands to sit around creative ways to crack on me, but knock yourselves out.

Like I've said several times now, I fucked up. It still pisses me off that I got taken, but oh well. I'm still going to build the truck, and the other guys in my club are excited about the project, so it will be good in the end.

As far as the burning the guys house down stuff, I'm just blowing off steam. Otherwise, everybody that never made a mistake with a car, raise your hand.............................yeah, that's what I thought.

Keep your eyes peeled for updates as I resurrect this thing, and yeah, we're definitely looking at putting a V-8 in it now.

For everybody that sympathized a little, thanks. And for all the tough guys that called me an idiot over the internet, good luck. I learned my lesson on this deal.

Some guys get off ripping into others, guess they get something out of it. A few guys here are on the "who gives a shit list". Build it and have fun. Ask when you need to, enough here still think helping is a good thing.

Read my revised profile tough guy. It says 'motorcycle mechanic' and I never said the truck was supposed to be running at the time of sale.

Several people asked and never got an answer, how much did you pay? Yfou pointed out that you are a motorcycle mechanic when spanked about missing the hole in the block, does a hole in a mc case look that much different from a hole in an auto block.

So why don't you just come clean on what you payed for it?

    What's the big secret?

Half the reason you got the response you did was because you come across as having something to hide by not telling the HAMB what you payed for it.

The other half was cause you made the big threats about burning the guy's house down-well now you say you were just blowing off steam, you didn't really mean it, and everybody that cracked on you is a tough guy and a hypocrite. Hmmmmmmm.

How much did this thing cost to make you get so bent out of shape about a $150 motor? $3000? $1500? $800? $500?

    ????????

    clothes
    good lookin drunk girls
    old cars-trucks
the price was right for what you paid or you would not have done the deal
if it were a perfect runner it never ... never would have been so affordable

i call this syndrome ..swap meet stupidity
you fell rushed to make /take the deal or it will be gone
the money saved will never out weigh the feelin of being gyped..you will remember bad deals more than good deals ..
    . (change your ways now)
was the truck worth what you paid with a bad engine.?.. prolly so

My guess is he only paid a couple of hundred. If that's the case he knows if he tells everyone the low price he's gonna get ragged on even more.

I bought a car, '39 Chevy Bussiness Coupe "sight unseen". I seen pics of it here. Not real good pics. Talked to the guy over the phone for an hour two different times. He said the floor boards were rusted out. Even had a buddy look at it before he gave him cash. Talked to my buddy while he was lookin' at it 800 miles away. My buddy got home with it I was dissapointed bad. I didn't threaten my buddy or the guy I bought it off of. Chalked it up as "Never do that again". I was told the car had rust. My buddy said it wasn't bad. I told him to hand over the cash. The car has bad issues of rust. floorboards are gone, trunk floor is gone, rockers are gone. Left qtr is rusted and wrinkled. right qtr is rusted, drivers door is rusted on bottom, trunklid rusted on bottom, panel under trunk lid gone. It can be fixed, but not as easy as I thought. I WILL get it going. I've wanted one for years. I've found a drivers qtr on ebay, I got floorboards. Just a matter of time, dollars, and sweat. Just gotta look at things GOOD,..YOURSELF before handing over cash
