Mine, going back to it after some set-backs. Built for use here in Austria so mods are mostly to ensure good handling/roadholding, but 289 will come out at some stage to get breathed on.

Didn't think of one of those as track tools, always wondered about that front suspension design - I assume you made some changes?

I used to autocross my Mach 1, but when I built the big engine, it just became too much to handle on the road course....so one day I took the truck to an event and didn't do too bad, and it was a blast to drive it...so my goal became to build it on a budget, and use the stock suspension....lots of phone calls got me "sponsorships" from Competition Engineering (panhard bar), Addco (they built me custom sway bars, for the cost of the metal), Promaxx (they sold me aluminum heads at cost), KYB, FiTech sent me an EFI system (changed that back to the Holley on it), yadyadayada.....So, it still has the stock leaves in back with a half flip lowering job, the front is the stock TTB parts with urethane because I didn't want to do a Crown Vic swap like everyone else, and I got some custom springs and chopped them. Lots of math and luck and I got the geometry right. I steer mostly with the back end, it is definitely a crowd pleaser, and it can handle stock WRXs, most BMWs, Mustangs, C5 and back Corvettes, Camaros, Challengers, etc. on the course no problem. ....most guys tow their race cars to the track, I use mine to tow my camper to the races and stay in it....and in the winter I put on some studded snows and moon discs and still drive it every day. Still has the stock bench seat, too. (some results posted, I'm Lucas Johnson, obviously. Those first place Miatas are full carbon fiber tub race cars). I'll have a bruise on my left leg from my knee to my ankle from holding myself upright against the door after a day of racing.

Well you live and learn... I suppose the secret is (?) to limit camber changes on those swing axles. Actually, when I think about it, Allard sports cars and some very early Lotuses had a similar set up and they did win big races back in the day.
