I'm an Edelbrock fan. Have used a bunch of them. Easy to tune, don't leak and get good performance and mileage once you dial them in.

Lame thread. Post this on old hamb vs newer hamb and see the difference. Lots of repeat threads when could tag and continue older ones even with slight differences and same responses. IMO Or a new thread with question with more specifics concerning ride. Some like to hear and text themself It’s a old saying but I’ll digress.

If you have time to waste, you can spend hours searching old threads.

I am of the belief that every type of carburetor has it's place, it's all according to what you're doing with it. Except Thermoquads, they are just ugly. lol

Carburetion is really application specific, but this thread got me thinking about carburetors of choice. Here are mine:

    Four barrel, spread-bore:
    (1) Carter TQ
    (2) Rochester Q-Jet

    Four barrel, rectangular base:

    (1) Carter AFB (original, not the modern imitation)
    (2) Carter WCFB
    (3) Rochester 4-Jet

    Four barrel, "square base":

    (1) Carter WCFB
    (2) Stromberg 4A
    (3) Rochester 4-Jet
    (4) Holley 4000

    Two-barrel (this category is difficult):

    (1) Carter WCD
    (2) Carter WGD, Rochester 2-Jet, Stromberg WW, Stromberg WWC

    Single barrel:

    (1) Carter W-1, Carter WE
    (2) Stromberg "B" series, Zenith 228 series, Zenith 28 series
    (3) Carter YF

Updraft carbs open another entirely different can of worms, but in general Stromberg SF/SFM series, Zenith 63/263 series tied for first, with Carter BB-1 series second.

This post may open a lively discussion, but remember the question was YOUR carburetor of choice.

    Two considerations in my choices:

    (1) ALL are well-documented as to ALL calibrations (jets, air bleeds, restrictors, bypasses, etc.).
    (2) Notice all of my choices have Carter as number 1. This is due to Carter's "metering rod technology", first developed in 1929, and used since. Gives a more uniform A/F ratio for all values of vacuum.

    Jon.

  8. My 63 Chevy Impala came with a Carter AFB 4 barrel & when I put
the engine in my Merc. I left the Same Carb. on it.!
I have rebuilt it Twice sine 1963 so I will keep it on the Engine
If I would have to change I would use a Holley carb.

    Just my 3.5 cents

Free*****an complete carb! with same base pattern! as a intake.
Pass that; For smooth a four barrel.
For looks two or more carbs.
I made my own intake out of a cut up drive shaft,to hold 4x2s. (94's)

Edelbrock 600 CFM 4 barrel. Looks 'a little' out of place on a FoMoCo but a bullet proof carb as far as I'm concerned. Ford or Shivel-lay works great ....EZ to tune.

Again, there is absolutely nothing that hasn't been posted multiple times, IMO much like HEMI threads, if this, in your own words "LAME POST" bothers you so much why do you waste your time replying?

I was under the impression we should help each other and not look for a argument, If it's me you have a problem with send me a conversation or click the ignore button, I'm here for the long run and will continue to try a offer my help with anyone including my antagonist. HRP

Being a Ford man back in 60s I was a Holley fan. In 63 I had a 60 Falcon that I swapped in a 221. A friend gave me an AFB from a Buick so I bought a manifold and put it on the Falcon and picked up 5 mpg over the 2 barrel in 65 bough a 64 300 hp 4 speed Impala and added a 350 hp cam ,intake keeping the AFB later went to holley no gain in performance but lost mileage.

I can pretty much guarantee that this kid is no better off now than before this thread was started. The original question and title were of no value to a specific car/engine combination. Then HRP added in some vague info about the kid and the cars, but still not enough to offer any help to him. It's just a thread of "what do you like" which in and of itself offers nio technical advice or help. SMH

I think I’d ask him a few questions, assuming it’s a V8, find out what he has on it now. If a 2bbl, go from there. If a 2bbl and he is willing to spend a few bucks, then intake and 4bbl.
He may not even know what’s on it nor how to tell due to lack of experience, so have him take the air cleaner off and take a pic of what he has.
