There is a complete 2.5 turbo and transaxle for sale in Rochester, NY on craigslist. Needs a rebuild, but it ALL there.

I was hesitant to post on this board about this but I just picked a project car up that fits the bill. Can't drive my "Pro-Street" everywhere as it gets 5 MPG. Got a 1960 Nash Metropolitan project. I really like the strange "Superman" era lines of the car. I will keep the 1500 CC engine in it so I can cruise and get 30 MPG

The Metropolitan looks like Lois Lane could step out any moment! A way cool 50's into 60's look. 1500cc's sounds about right too. I found a 2 Liter Ford 4, that Cosworth and others Crane/Crower have gear for, so the "A" should be a runner.

'79 MB 4 cly diesel and 4 sp. in a '30 extended PU with an AA frame and fullfendered and hood. '35 16" wire wheels/tires. I used to get 30 mpg. in the 240D MB. This PU should weigh 1/2 of what the MB weighed. Will be my shop truck. The engine has plenty of aluminum and will clean up nice. There's a lot of stuff to get rid off and has air cond. compressor already. Don't expect a lot of power off the line, but should make for an economical and fun driver. Best part is I have about $2200. in so far. Joe.

  8. Wonder if ya could get just one Edelbrock or Yates head for it? Would fix that expansion problem and have a real breather too ..

I saw a writeup somewhere of a guy that had (IIRC) one of the Dove heads on one that was bored and stroked (mechanical injection in one of the pictures I saw too). Sounded like a wild ride.

What is the torqueiest 4 out there to use ????

  12. Hate to say it, but I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO YOU ALL!!!

I picked up a good running Quad4, (actually a complete '97 Achieva, and got all the harnesses, accessories and computers out of it) but it turns out that I won't be able to use it for my project without heavy modification...

Needless to say, now I need to flip the Quad4 for a 2005-up Ford Zetec (out of a Focus)

    Oh well...

Mac, what are you gonna put the Ford Zetec in ?????

  15. 61-63 Poncho Tempest 4 cyl. Not the most economical, convenient, powerful or good looking, but a winner for the weird factor.

The project was supposed to end up a track T, but if i want to fit my ass in there with the transaxle still connected to the motor, I was having trouble with the channel and motor-to-transaxle height.

It sure is fun to drive, though.:D

P.S. Sorry about the crappy cell-phone pics, I'm in the process of moving.

I got a 2.5 AMC 4 banger/5sp given me, when she wrecked the 2001 Cherokee. Made a log manifold for a 2 barrel rochester, and sent FS ignition the dizzy. They are makin a S/S dizzy w/centrifical advance, so I can get rid of all the gadgets. Mounting it in a 29 frame and a 29 C/C Pk Up cab. Should run pretty cheep, as we are almost at $5.00 per. Front dropped and rear axles came out of a 65 Chevy van. Ice man

No such thing as a mid 2003-or up Zetec.... They are all Duratec now.

Zetec = Header on driver's side and intake on pass. (if installed North-South)
Duratec = Intake on driver's side and exhaust on pass (if installed North-South)

    Mid 2003 and 2004 were 2.3 w/ 150ish hp and tq. 2005-up are 2.0 w/ 135ish hp and tq.

Why won't the Quad 4 work???

  19. tjm73,

Sorry for the incorrect info- yes, I will be looking for a 2005-up Duratec 4 Cylinder engine (I would like the exhaust on the pass side).

The oil filter on the Quad4 is right at the level of a T frame, which leads to clearance issues not only with removal/installation, but also with steering. It also has that butt-ugly oil/air separater on the side of the block- don't really feel like grinding, filling, etc to get rid of that.

I know others have used the Quad4 with success (one reason I went for it), but I'm not sure if I have the means necessary to make it happen.

hate to say it for as new as it is, but id go to the junkyard and get one of those 122 cube <2.0> supercharged eco-techs from a cobalt. fuel injected supercharged would be kinda cool for mpg but it would be funny to dink with to see if you could fabricate an intake and an adapter to run a carb on it. the new ones are supposed to be turbo'ed it would be cool to have one and make it a blow through carb set up.

Pretty funny, eh? This is a quote from Glenn's message that started this thread. Imagine, worried about 3 buck a gallon gas! Well, I'm fully committed to the "Neo-Banger" approach, if I may coin a phrase, towards ultra-light rods that are still plenty quick and get the most fun per gallon. Gary

Mac, I had to relocate the filter on mine (I used the Racor version of an Oberg and an adaptor on the block). I also did away with the factory air oil seperator, I T'ed the lines together and ran an open breather. I saw a picture of a fella that had eliminated all the factory vents and installed a Ford V8 style breather cap (with the stock quad dipstick on the bottom).

Good luck with the 'Fronty' look 'on the cheap'.

I'm using a 2.5 AMC 4 banger/5 sp for my ride. Got it free while I waite for my B parts to get finished in the States. Will be building a 29 Pk Up Rod, and our gas is ONLY $5.00 per. We have one of the largest refineries in the world, HOVENSA, 40 water miles away. They tell us gas is so expensive cause they have to ship it here by boat. YEA, dosen't everone get there fuel that way.

I realize it is not a banger, but I've got a SHO, V6 in my A-Speedster. I was going to convert it to a Holley 4BBL....But lately, I'm not so sure and I might leave the injection on it. One of the tiny V-8's with all of the plastic covers removed would look pretty good with no hood.....Ah but it is not "traditional", afterall.

Probably my favorite V-6, but too hard for me. I think little 6's or 8's should be included in this discussion, too, but no more than about 200 cubes so economy is still a factor. Later, Gary
