I was just curious to hear from you all about what it is that you like the most about drag racing, building rods or just all around "hot rodding". We all have our likes and dislikes about this hobby. What is yours?
I love the roadtrips. There's nothing like a group of rod,and kustoms all rolling together down the highway. There are so many great people in this hobby!!
I enjoy building my engines and running the **** out of em! I enjoy putting a car/truck/bike back on the road that someone has given up on. I enjoy chasing down parts. I rarely get positive comments about my projects and THAT motivates me to continue on when I start slackin! peace
I like creating things. Shwoing myself I can do anything I put my mind to, then enjoying them with my boys.
I have owned this car since 1973 and my motivation is to get it back on the road and get back to cruising and showing this bad boy off- plus like I said many times after my stroke this has been the best therapy better than anything the doctor could proscribe-
Meeting new people, swapping stories and being able to use the cars in benefit car shows to help those in need.
Hanging out and bench racing with my Dad. He is 72 and is the coolest guy I know. I love him so much! He will call just to talk about Flatheads, it's the best! My two brothers and I enjoy every second we can be with him. My older brother and I talk cars and old Semi trucks with him ( he's a retired trucker 40 yrs). And my younger brother talks DOO WOP with him it's all good! He use to Run from Manhatten to Mankato Minnesota backhauling ****er into Manhatten NYC. 1963 Cabover Emeryville IH. Back in the day of real Truck drivers haha!
Getting to know people and part hunting is what I like... thumbs up from people when you take your ride on the road are ok too I guess!
Whats not to like about working on a cl***ic car? The challenge of getting it back on the road, keeping it on the road, driving it ( a few years off in my case!) They dont make cars like they used to, and they wont again. The thought of turning the key and hearing that V8 kick over and then going for my first drive in my Caddy keeps me awake at night and drives me to get it done.
I'm not that motivated but YoungRodder keeps reminding me about all the cool *** car shows I'll want to attend so that makes me take baby steps.
Many reasons, but so far as the drag racing goes I'll give that a try. Beyond the obvious rush which comes from the speed, roar and kick in the pants insano acceleration, I like that it allows me to just be plain mean! LOL! I have to be nice constantly in the rest of my life and racing is just pure unbridled violence. It's nice to just line up the car and let all that **** out. By the time I reach that return road I feel as giddy as a little schoolgirl!
my motivation is all the bad *** cars that's out there past and present and the kick *** ppl I've met thru my automotive addiction lol
STUPIDITY cause its some thing I have to do or my mind would eat itself up. Cant be a couch potato hate golf and sports T.V. ****s not a great alcoholic (hang overs ****) dont like drugs. Tried other Hobbes but still comes back to cars. What can I do its a sickness.
The build...... the bond between 4 generations all contributing toward a common goal. The priceless experiences and memories created as well as knowledge that no book can convey. Last but not least being able to SEE and FEEL what you have created ...also....chicks dig it
I've been playing hot rod music since the age of 11 and I was finally able to buy one 2yrs ago, my love for the 50's and music motivate me to keep building my dream car. Sam Navarro
I enjoy when people look at you like you are absolutely freakin nuts driving down the street in this loud rabid beast of a machine. I like when you park it and a crowd gathers and you walk up to it amid all the whispers of I wonder who owns this and say excuse me and slip behind the wheel fire it up and lay the hammer down as they react as if armagedon has just commenced. I like making my paint job shine real fine so I can check out a lady's pretty shape in the pool of reflection, I know she sees me looking but I am clever in my tact and thus she does not protest but with a wry smile. I enjoy owning a car that only intelligent men can identify, guys that don't use decimals to equate power. I love the smell of racing fuel straight through the whole process, It smells like a harmony of fine cigars, pretty ladies perfume and top shelf rum. I like the cackle of an engine with a big cam and a healthy lope, the sign of the beast that needs a nudge with a foot towards rage.
I refuse to give up even though I probably should have the day they unloaded the car off the carrier. I enjoy learning new stuff even though it makes me swear and throw things. I like the challenge of doing projects I never would have guessed I could. But really it's so expensive and a time **** if it weren't in my soul I'd never do it. Rational explanations don't really cover it. It can be fun to drive them sometimes and girls seem to dig them.
you sir are a true poet. for me its the appreciation for true craftsmanship, the freindship, and most of all for me its the sense of accomplishment. its that moment when you finish a job and just sit back and stare at what you completed, only you know what it took to get it there, its better than ***(sometimes...)
I have a number of motivations. 1) I like the history 2) I'm doing the things I wish I had done in my early twenties 3) When I'm done building I can give it to my son to drive and lastly, 4) I'm pretty damn anti-social, so its nice to get around like minded people who dont give a **** about social skills so long as you can build.
The whole process. From the idea that starts in your head when you picture in your mind that vision of what the finished project should/will look like. The searching and gathering of the vehicle and/or parts needed to build the latest “dream vehicle”. Fabricating the brackets and mounts to put it all together to “make it all work”. Chopping tops, changing body lines, frenching lights, etc. Where to make the cuts and shaping/forming the metal to make the finished project pleasing to the eye. Much like a artist or sculptor, these vehicles are my canvas. Rolling artwork that you can drive as opposed to hang on your wall. The lumpy cam, noisy exhaust, the sound of American muscle. That first ride in the newest creation is just as much a thrill as it was driving my first modified car 45 years ago. And last, the people I have met and become lifelong friends with. Without this common interest, I would not have been fortunate enough to meet such wonderful people. And all this do to the love of Automobiles. It has been a life long addiction for me. Life is good.
The camaderie of the people, and the individuality of each ride even clones. Everyone has to put a personal touch on what they make.
The roar of 8 cylinders in V formation thundering down the road. The looks ya get and the new friends you almost always make when cruising or showing off your ride. I call it socializing with the LOUD pedal!
I guess for me it is too hard to narrow it down to one thing. Several of you have touched on many of the same reasons i enjoy it. Spending time with dad, making new friends, attending car shows, the sound of a ground pounding V8 and just the overall pride in bringing back a piece of history to life again.
I also have a number of motivations 1) Spending time with my dad 2) Doing the things I wish I had done 20 years ago (but didn't have the time, money, or interest) 3) The sense of accomplishment... "Yeah, I did that" 4) Its nice to get around like minded people who dont give a **** about social skills so long as you can build.
