I was looking through 1LOWCHIEF's PASO pics and saw this same scoop that I have out in my garage. I was thinking of running it when I get my four barrel carb on. Does anyone have any info about it? I got mine at a garage sale.

My recolection is that is an air cleaner off a marine engine. I think they are more correctly called a flame arrestor. The engine compartment of an inboard powered boat is a power keg if fuel fumes build up and a stray spark occures. Not necessarily the examples shown on TV or the movies but an explosive atmosphere non the less.

Nicson spark arrester...commonly used in marine applications.

    They don't really have a "filter"...just a mesh screen.

They turn up on e-bay frequently. My bro-in-law is running a pair on his dual quad 348.

It's allways nice to find a cool part in the garage that you had forgotten about.[IMG] I have been looking for some of the 2 barrel carb versions, there harder then hell to find but they sure look cool.

    Yup flame arrestors.
I've got a couple on my nailhead.
One is a Nicson. The other one is a Badger.
    They are almost identical. [IMG]

I personally think those things look pretty 70's, but if that's what you like.

I'd say. I really like the last pic on the intake. Do you have another pic of them?

I think they look really old skool, like the old choppers with wire screen over the carb(s).

Yes if I lived in a dusty environment, I'd use filters to get to the shows and then pop them on. I've toyed with the idea of replacing the element with K&N filter media.

Man those are SLICK. I like, I like!

I was going to cut up this K & N I got from a bike deal a couple of years ago and put it into the screen area on mine. I put it on my truck, but it looks funny on top of the 2 barrel so I am waiting until I get a 4 barrel set-up.

HOP...fitting a K&N element behind the screens is what I'm planning for mine. I think it'll work fine.
