    Hi Guys,

I thought I would buy a new modern solid-state type cutout for my generator on the Model A from the middle of -28.
But! I was surprised that my generator didn't looked like a normal Model A generator.
    I don't why I haven't noticed this before.

I'm running the original 6 volt positive ground system.

I have no idea where this generator is coming from.

What kind of generator is this?

    See the attached pics.

    Thanks!

  2. That's an early 1928 AR "powerhouse" generator. Sell it to a restorer and get a later unit

That powerhouse was not a good design, thats why Henry Ford stopped using it

Your fan shroud is another early item

They made two kinds of the early power house generators. A 3 brush & a 5 brush. The 5 brush is the better of the two. If that's an original shroud on the radiator it's worth some good money to a restorer.

    Thanks guys,

I know that the generator is working because it's charging the battery but I don't know if it's over- or undercharging yet. The Am-meter is not stable at all so it's hard to see what the Amps is.
I have to have a look on it if it's 3 or 5 brush generator. But can I still mount a solid state cutout?
The fan shroud is hopefully original and I will try ro restore the car in the future.
The starter is also one of the early ones because it's shaft is only 1/2" or something.

    Thanks again!

You may want to replace the Amp gauge because there normaly readable when running the engine.

The powerhouse generators were used until Mid-29. The cutouts should be the same, 6V is 6V, and I think Ford used the same ones for YEARS as far as bolt patterns are concerned.
