A few years ago, my friend Bill Hampton said, "I can't figure out what kind of guy you are." I asked what he meant and he said, "Well, you are definitely not a Ford guy and I don't think you're a Chevy guy. What kind of guy are you?" (At the time I had my 54 Chevy, my 41 Plymouth and a 48 Buick convertible. I had recently sold a 64 Pontiac Catalina project that I lost interest in. So, you can understand his confusion.) I replied, "I am a whatever I like guy and I was."

I have also had a 57 Chevy and a 49 Chevy Tin Woody since, both of which are gone now. I completed my 49 Buick and bought 61 LeSabre bubble top last year to replace the 57. I was not going to replace the 49 Tin Woody until a really nice 65 Riviera popped up about 2 hours away from me. I couldn't resist. I still have the Plymouth and I have a 34 Ford project and a 37 Packard future project. The Packard will be nailhead powered. So now I guess I am morphing into a Buick guy. What kind of guy are you?

I've had one Chevy for 46 years, another for 10 years, and the new one only a month or so. But yeah....they seem to stick around far longer than anything else does. Although I've dabbled with Buick, Ford, Edsel, Hudson, Pontiac, Dodge, GMC, Plymouth, Lincoln, Rambler, and several foreign jobbies over the years.

For 31 years I was a Buick guy. Currently I am disguised as both a Chevy guy and a Pontiac guy.

    Toyota, Nissan, Ford,
Was a Chevy man for 20 yrs due to my father complaining over Fords y blocks and overall maint issues.
The 80’s and 90’s poor American quality led me to think outside the box.
    I’ve never looked back.
If it has tires and tits…

I've owned old cars and trucks from the big 3 plus a few domestic orphans, European and Japanese too.
lately though, as to hot rods, and not necessarily by conscious choice, I've gravitated towards early Olds V8 powered early Ford cars.

Never bought into the idea of one make. It's the styling that first appeals to me. The mechanicals can be dealt with and modified as needed. However, with that said, I've gravitated towards Mopar more and more because there's less of them and so I don't tend to tire of seeing the same thing over and over. I have a bevy of different brands though.

Kinda one track here... After 2 trade lifetimes (65 years mechanic, Tech, specialist, etc.) it gets hard to choose.
    Favorite to work on? ///
In the '60s, elder German boss would refer to customers as their cars; "Mike, did you talk to that 'Porsche man'?" Always struck me funny...Mental picture of a guy shaped like a 356 with large elliptical glasses sealed over a pair of Hella lamp-like eyes...
As teens, we identified with whichever make could identify us as 'noteworthy'. All my peers were Chevy crazy, but I never thought they were all that. I was 13, chopping my '36 three window, and had bought an older kid's '32 Five window, all apart, just painted.
I traded th Olds engine and LaSalle box for 2 flatheads, a V8 quickie, and a horde of parts. That confirmed it.
I was a 'Ford man, er, Kid'. Ford kid. I preferred 'The Kid'. Ah, well.
When I went to work as an apprentice, my boss, Red, asked what I worked on. I told him, "Fords, Mercurys..."
He laughed, said: "Well, Son? We're gonna widen up your parameters."
Boy, did he. Int. Harvesters, Cadillacs, Oldsmobiles, Hudsons, and the like.
Guess he made me an..."All around man." ...When I grew up.

I'm a 28 to 36 Ford guy with either big block Chevy, small block Chevy, or flathead Ford powered. I do have a 392 Chrysler Hemi that I plan to build and put into some kind of 30's Ford someday so I'm expanding my tastes. I've also recently bought a 55 Chevy 2 door post and a 57 Chevy convertible so I'm widening my tastes even more.

For me, it's about styling and uniqueness. I have owned cars that you see at every cruise in or car show. Now, I want cars you don't see often and that stand apart from the crowd. Like you, I can change the drive drivetrain to whatever I want it to be if I don't like it.

Predominantly Chevy, with a couple of Fords thrown in for variety. Only a couple of foreign cars, a beater super beetle, 2 real Minis, and a Subaru (for the awd). I like small block Chevy engines, hence the prevalence of Chevies.

Chevy for me. Even late models. I am far too patriotic to ever consider buying a foreign car

    Don't care.

Artificial tribalism only serves to divide otherwise largely identical groups, creating tension, and sometimes hostility.

Division is a tool used by those in power (in this case, the Capitalist ownership class) to maintain their power.

The only criteria that need be met is that the owner likes it, it is reasonably safe, and it drives nice.
