I wish I was brand loyal, then maybe I could have a smaller shop. I guess I am a Ford guy mostly.

Well, I drive a 33 Dodge coupe. I'm on what seems to be an endless build on a 49 Buick sloper and I work occasionally on a 50 chop top Ford project. In the past, I have built and driven a 47 Chevy aerosedan, a 32 Ford Roadster, a 48 Chevy PU, a 35 Ford five window and a 56 Ford PU. So, what kind of guy am I. One who likes all kinds of interesting projects.

I'm a Chevy Guy, with 1 59 Chevy, two 59 Fords, a Henry J , 2 ot Fords, an ot GMC, an ot Buick, and a Honda that came with the wife. My 59 F100 will get a Chevy Engine, my Henry J is Mopar powered . I have owned most makes. I like my Chevys, Bodies are costly, most other makes follow me home for free or damn near . I get easily distracted.

I guess I like a lot of different brands and models. Hell, I could put a Chevy motor in anything.

  5. I've pretty much always been a Ford guy. I've flirted with other brands here and there but always seem to come 'home' to Ford. Out of the engine failures I've had, most of 'em were GM products.

I also have an interest in history, and the history of the big three has informed some of my preference. Ford and Chrysler were ran by car guys at least up until the '60s, while GM has always been the 'bean counter' company with occasional flashes when a car guy snuck in under their radar. Chrysler used to be all about the mechanical aspects, running gear that would last seemingly forever, but their styling could be hit or miss. I do like some of Exner's efforts although he did get a bit carried away. GM was all about marketing, they used to set the 'trends' but sometimes shortchanged the mechanical aspects. Ford was in the middle, they seldom went in for the extreme styling that GM and Chrysler dabbled in and generally used simpler design criteria, rarely trying anything weird. Of the three, Ford has the richest racing heritage but did a poor job of mass-marketing it until the '60s, really until the '69 Cobra Jet Mustangs. Part of the reason was when Ford did do performance, they tended to go overboard, selling basically race motors that while those pleased the hard-core guys, were a bit too wild and wooly for buyers whose only interest was in some 'extra' power. It usually was an all-or-nothing deal; a 427/4 speed, manual everything Galaxie wasn't a car your wife wanted to drive...

I am on my 4th black, Chevy truck for my daily. They never have let me down, I get great money for them when I sell them so why change now? As far as old stuff is concerned, I prefer to keep an open mind.

Well. I started with a '39 Plymouth Businessman Coupe @ 15, '65 Fiat Spyder @ 17, '64 Ford Fairlane 289 3spd @ 19, New '72 Plymouth Duster @ 21, then it escalated from there. '69 VW Baja, '70 VW Type 3 wagon (both with 1641 hiperf engines), '76 Mustang II, '74 Buick Roadmaster station wagon, '77 Tempest, '36 Fiat Topolino with a Fiat 2l 124 engine and transmission, '82 Dodge Mirada, '74 Olds 88, '90 Isuzu Rodeo, '87 Honda Prelude, '88 Dodge K car, '70 Dodge Dart, '76 Chevy El Camino, '78 Jeep Grand Cherokee, '99 Honda Civic Si, '99 Jeep Grand Cherokee, '2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, '98 Dodge Intrepid, '2001 Dodge Durango, '2009 Dodge Challenger RT, '2011 Dodge Durango RT '2017 Dodge Durango RT. OK so I guess I'm just a car nut, now and for the last 60+ years. Oh, I left out the Opel GT with mid engine Porsche 2.0 L mid engine race car, Porsche 944 autocross car, 944 & 924 street cars and the 1920 Dodge Brother Open Touring I've cut down into a tbucket style roadster.
Thxs for letting me reminisce, at 72 it takes awhile to get the memory to work that hard.

My last comment on this thread. All the comments I've read so far only point to the fact that they're ALL just put together with nuts and bolts. ;)

I'm into traditional Ford hot rods and 4x4 Toyotas. Both practical in their own right.

I've owned several Chevys, Oldsmobiles, Pontiacs, Buicks, a few Fords & Mercurys, a couple MoPars, and even a few AMCs. Several women have called me an asshole, but my wife thinks I'm awesome. So, whatever...

Wicarnut says it all. I like them all, the car hobby has served me well, still does and will till my expiration date. Will say I am a SBC guy and a GM man in general but have strayed some through the years.

If my hot rod fund was unlimited, I'd have a pretty broad/odd collection that would range far outside the reaches of the HAMB.

I do realize that I have specific interests because I've gone to car shows and really studied just one or two cars and pretty much walked by the rest. Over time, I've developed a love for 60s hot rods.

Going a little deeper - I'm certain that I'm a parts snob... hahaha. I really geek out about details and parts. It's not all about rarity with me, either, though some stuff seems to be getting rarer. I like certain aftermarket brands or OEM parts and such and I think that comes from studying a lot of cars for my own build(s).

I get asked a lot 'What's your favorite bird?'. My answer is always the same:
'The very next one I see.'

It's not the fact that I am into hot rods that makes me a car guy.
It's my happy disposition and my ability to interact well with others...........:eek:o_O:rolleyes:
