In modern terms, its most closly realted to the Vortec and Paxton centrifugal type superchargers

I'm no expert, but look at that thing again

If it was a centrifugal supercharger, it would have some sort of drive to it, most likely belts (or unlikley, gears/shafts) which it does not

Also note the hose connection from the radiator, so it's got water in it

    Whatever it is, I don't think it's a blower

  8. You can see the blower drive right below it. Must not be running much boost on that ardun in that pic - there is only 1 belt on the 3 belt pully!

I think the water jacket may be to help keep the fuel from puddling. This car was at the '03 pileup, with just a small heater type hose to the supercharger.

OK - I stand corrected; now I see the drive belt set-up; looks like it's driving the blower and the generator

These were originally made in the late thirties for flathead powered heavy trucks. They were not for racing. They wanted more street HP for hauling larger loads. The coolant hook up was to to heat the intake charge in the winter time just like the exhaust crossover in an intake manifold. You will see many hot rodded with the coolant passage blocked off.

Here is the impeller that does the deed.

Wish I could find the article, but Hot Rod ( I think) went back and investigated the power increase of old speed equipment. A similar blower actually reduced power by 5-10 HP, as did a 6 deuce set up. A guy here in Texas has one for sale at all the swaps. I think he's asking 5 grand? Im betting he'll have it for a while.

well like tommy said it wasn't made for hot rods or racing. it was meant for big trucks with low gears pulling under load. just like centrifugal it makes much better boost spinning like hell.
