what kind of solution/solvent for a heated parts washer???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by PBR Allstar, Jan 21, 2008.

  1. So I just got given to me a heated automatic parts washer (like the big dishwasher kind) and I'm not sure what type of cleaning solution to run in it? I know being here in california, most of the ones at shops and what not that I'm familiar with are not that great (thanks EPA!!!), I remember when you could put a transmission case in a parts washer and have it come out shiny almost new, now it seems the chemicals will only take off some of the large chunks. So anyway, anyone have a good recomendations for some cleaning solution I can order? or even a homebrew concoction that will serve me well??

    thanks!

  3. I looked on mcmaster carr's website, which is usually my go to for this sort of thing, and they only had a couple options and they said "not recomended for spray cabinets"????

I believe you can use mineral spirits, and for more money low oder stuff is available.

Safety clean makes a couple but you're looking at like 90 bucks for 5 gal.
    or
Check you local farm and fleet, Tractor Supply Company or similar.
