Ok stupid question time! Anybody know what lug nuts to use with these? And where to find them? They are superior wire basket wheels. I know they are shank lug nuts or at least I assume they are, but the wheel is only about a quarter inch thick so even with the washer a 1/2” long shank it still is deeper then the wheel.
What size stud? I might have what you're looking for. I'm on a 48 this weekend but I'll look when i get home Monday.
I'm thinking that those buggers use an oval washer setup that has a piece that fits in and takes up the space that your stud doesn't. As Lloyd alluded to, I am thinking that the washers are stud size specific. Meaning that 7/16 takes a different washer than 1/2 does. I'm also thinking that those washers are about as rare as rocking horse poop now. There are no indents for the ET style washers to sit in and locate with as these need.
Could be the Cragar-style 'unifit' set up. The nut shank diameter matches the width of the hole, the washer has no 'seat', it's just flat. The hole may be offset depending on the bolt pattern. Could use a ET-type nut/washer also, but I wonder if those would be thick enough. This design looks a little sketchy with that thin of a flange. ET patented their design, all the others had to come up with something that didn't infringe on their patent. None of these 'others' worked as well...
Are you sure they're Superior? Appliance made wire basket wheels that used a seperate ring with the actual lug pattern. Here is a pic of a 4 lug one...but you get the idea. The center hole on those is a little big too.. the retaining ring has a register that centers in the hole in the wheel.
Found this in my lugnut drawer. There is 1/4” of shank after the washer. I can’t tell you where to get them. This is just my opinion so take it for what it is worth. Why in the hell would you want to run those butt ugly wheels anyway? There I said it....
So........my crystal ball says that there will soon be a new thread titled "Need help to find a weird vibration"....
Moriarty has the right lug. most wire basket wheels mounted that way. You can buy nice thick washers and cut the lugs if you need to. Good washers and keep them tight and they work fine.
How much info do you want? Here's an oldie, but a goodie. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/its-the-little-things-a-tiny-uni-lug-wheel-tip.158216/ I wish C9 was still with us..............
Thanks for the help…. I’m thinking I will likely just shorten lug nuts. Apparently I’m on a roll the last couple days rubbing people the wrong way.
if you decide to shorten the shanks on lug nuts, make sure they are threaded deep enough so there is room for the stud to thread all the way......
Good point there. twenty8. There's a chance those wheels have a "hub hole" that is the largest size for all the applications. I had a recollection of reading somewhere that rings are available as spacers for hub and wheel mismatches. I did a "custom hub centric rings" search and found more than one seller. Here's one example........ https://www.uswheeladapters.com/hub-centric-rings/ Maybe aren't needed in this instance but I thought I'd post it here in case someone does.
here they are on ebay, scroll way down for the specs https://www.ebay.com/itm/304053318700?epid=1311227971&hash=item46cafd742c:g:9UwAAOSw-Slg30r6
