Been researching about brakes lots lately and read the tech post about using F100 brake shoes and hardware with 53-56 drums and backing plates. This is the setup I am going to use on the front and for the rear I have a 9" out of a 67 pickup. What should I look for in a master cylinder?

    Thanks

  2. my `28 tudor with f-100 front brakes and a maverick 8" rear end has a `67 mustang 1" bore drum/drum master cylinder....they work great

Fry;Your question couldn't come at a better time;I'm on the search for a M/C too.I was thinking of using a Ford pickup unit.I've got F-100 brakes on the front and a 9" Ford pickup rear end.So the Mustang unit might be the ticket;how pricey are these things?I'll have research the Ford pickup M/C's as to bore sizes etc.Anyone got any info on these things?

    Cheap! ~$20 or so for re-man w/core - ~$70 for new

so this would be a manual setup right with no booster or anything. I don't know mustangs or much about drum brakes either lol.
I have my frame pretty much done and am starting on the floor pretty quickly so I want to make sure I have room for the m/c.
    Thanks for all the replys.

Well what we have always run with drum brakes is a dual resovoir 67-72 Mustang master cylinder. Cougars have a similar one that works well too. When you check on it you can actually get different ones with inlets on either side depending on the year, and that can help depending on your space limitations as well.

This is an old post but relivant to my situation, I needed a master cylinder to make sure I leave room in my floor bracing that I'm currently working on, anyway I picked up the mustang one mentioned by 36-3window but it didn't come with a rod that I need. Napa said they couldn't get one, any thoughts on where I could?

Looks like 10-1488 is for the one that doesn't have the rod and
10-1485 is for the one with. All of $1 difference, much cheaper than the $50 wanted on mustang restorer sites for just the rod.

I always make my own rod, i have never bought one, i make em outta 3/8 CR round bar, round the end off that goes in the master so it doesnt chew it up, and thread the other end for a Rod end to hook on and done.

what about the lock on the inside? Don't worry about that? I can't see really needing it.
    Thanks
