I used to buy car mags but lately I have stopped. But just as soon as I finish reading the HAMB, I am going to start back buying again.
Seriously, with the ability to search on the HAMB and the Fordbarn, I can read what I want and when I want.

The last few years I have only bought magazines on an issue by issue bases. I'll look them over at the grocery store, if I see a tech article I like, I buy it regardless on the ***le on the cover. I've brought home everything from Gr*** roots motor sports, to a boat magazine. I like to thumb the camping mags, but I could care less about the latest greatest trailers. I'm pineing for an old
Canned ham camper to haul behind my 58. Chebby

Me too. I don't read it to get ideas how to build cars, though. I get it to see what my buddies are up to.

  4. The only one I follow in Hot Rod is a goofball from Arizona. For some reason he got the idea that he could go racin' with an old box Nova and be successful. you would think that given the Mexican population of the state that he lives in he would know that Nova means no go. :D

I will read any rod or custom-oriented magazine that is more that a few years old, the older the better, and the odder the better. Like others said, they are usually cheap and often free.

Used to read Rodders Digest when it was still in print for the tech articles, and also for the Sorchik artwork which had great humor.

Like waxhead, I have a complete set of FAST and SOSS magazines. Invaluable if you're into bangers. Ever since I bought my first SONY point and shoot digital camera, I've taken hundreds of photos of details on hot rods at shows, cruise ins and on the treet and set up a reference file on my computer. Too often, magazine coverage misses the details that one really likes to look at.

Every swapmeet I go to, I`ll buy a box of magazines. Automotive related. Look threw every page. It`s amazing the history you learn.

I subscribe to TRJ, car craft, Hot Rod and even Street rodder but I get few ideas from them. I get my ideas and inspiration from a giant stack of Rodder's Digest and the HAMB.

Like a few old guys, I was getting lots of hot rod type magazines ever since I discovered the early "little pages." I continued with all of those popular magazines....some just from habit, others because my wife kept renewing them. She thought it would keep me from reading the "girlie" magazines.
After Rod and Custom and a few others died again I just stopped getting any. Same old **** with newer ads showing how to install their ****. For some reason I still get Hot Rod but haven't opened one in years.
I get all my ideas from inside my widdle head and right here on the HAMB.

I was trying to be polite. Now I realize that does sound "girlie". I casually glanced at Hustler, Penthouse, *******, and others. But mostly for the antique car pictures. I did read a story in ******* once!

I really enjoyed "Rod and Custom''...kind of a bummer they went away:( ..I liked it!....I still enjoy Hemmings "Collector Car'' and "Exotic & Sports Cars'' quite a bit because of my 'other' car projects....and I still flip thru' a lot of old 50's & 60's car magazines I have lying around with no covers anymore:)

I forgot about the antique car magazines. I was getting Hemmings when Ernie started printing mimeograph pages and sending them to car shows. Same with Cars and Parts out of Sessor, Illinois. I got both of those magazines from the start. I dropped them after I retired and ran out of time to read them.
My favorite was also Rod & Custom. It just seemed right!
Now and then I will go out in the garage and look at a few old "little pages" mags. Sure better than billit and LT1's.

Yeah....I grew up old school when it comes to cars...I just can't get into the concept of all the 'modern' stuff with these new cars, and would really appreciate a magazine specified for those of us with that 'real' hot rod outlook....I like cars, and enjoy my time in the garage for the most part...and when I read a magazine about cars, I just want the 'simple' aspects which my cars represent and how I could 'learn' a few things with understanding....I felt the 'essence' with Rod and Custom, and could relate to their projects, but the car mags today are so advanced technology-wise, that I sometimes feel 'left out' when it comes to my little 40's and 50's style hotrods I tinker on.....cl***ic car magazines still have 'the format' and leaves me inspired, but sure would like a good old fashioned hot rod magazine again:)

I rarely buy car magazines anymore but have a lot of magazines from back in the day for inspiration.

I do subscribe to The Rodders Journal but nowadays 95 % of my ideas are gleamed from reading the Hamb. HRP

I do the same thing. I've come home with some real odd ball Mags over the years. Anything from home improvement ones for garage ideas to cooking mags for BBQ recipes.

  28. I've been a car magazine ***** since 1958. Currently I receive Hemming's, Muscle Car Illustrated, Street Rodder, Hot Rod. and Rodders Journal.
I dumped Car Craft and Super Chevy last year.
I'm still mourning the demise of Rod & Custom, and miss my Mag-Neto I used to get.
I glean ideas from all of the above but the HAMB is the one to bail me out of the jams that I've worked myself into frequently.

I pretty much only read old 50/60's magazines these day, gives me tones of ideas and motivation. is unbelievable how early rodders figured things out..........

I pickup the cheap smelly torn ones a swap meets..... then give away or sell cheap at my swap meet spots....

I'm surprised no one said CKDeluxe.

I just got the June issue and only a handful of non HAMB friendly rides.

There's a sweet chopped 57 Buick custom, 56 f100, chopped 50 Merc, a bunch of custom TBirds, a scalloped A roadster pickup with a banger, cool 48 Caddy, 36 Ford "g***er" and lots of other cool pics.
