Hot Rods What make is this car?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by yngrodder, Sep 28, 2014.

  1. Skyliner was a model name used on Ford's from 54-59, but the 54-56 year Skyliner's did not have the convertible hardtop which was called the "Retractable". They had the Acrylic Glass Roof panel over the drivers compartment. So while all Retractable's are Skyliner's, not all Skyliner's are Retractable's :)

  2. ................................I don't think anyone was really arguing, just having a little good nature type fun with each other over some semantics. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.:D

  3. Yeah, all I was saying was that Americans don't use the term "marque" very often. It sounds a bit pretentious to most of us. No OT argument intended. Make is more common than brand. It is an oddity, to me, that "make" seems to be only used for cars. No one asks what make your computer, end wrench or lawnmower is

I not only studied my dad's Little Books, but I also learned Posh* when I was a lad so I understood the term "marque" right away.

    (*I read Dad's Road & Track mags...)

  5. Do you have a marque on your arse, or a brand on your ass?

All this discussion is getting me tyred, or is that tired?

This was owned by a restorer friend of mine many years ago. Car I think is now blue. I can't find any recent photos of it in particular, the rear when seen at last car show here. _35_Master_Tourer__011.JPG I'd say 35 Chevy Master, pull the tarp and I'll know if it's a genuine Ozzie phaeton by the body pressings as GM (Australia) made them down here up until 1939. Rear body appears upright and might be a genuine phaeton.

Off topic but down here we didn't get the US sourced new bodies in 57 and 58. Ford (Aust) used the old 55 bodies and just updated them with new grills so we missed out altogether. The 59 we received was the first front hinged hoods. They are referred to here as Tank Fairlanes.

In a previous life, (when I was a cowboy) I 'rode for the brand'...hell, a Marque was a Lincoln, or a Rolls. :D

A "marque" was the guy I won a bunch of cash from playing poker years ago. He didn't play my "brand" of poker.
