I've got two Ford T10's sitting in the garage. I'm supposed to be selling them for a friend of mine, but so far that isn't working too well. He gave me the freedom to do whatever I wanted, as long as he got his money. The first transmission is a complete '62 Galaxie big block transmission. It's 100% complete, but the input gear has two broken teeth. The cluster is somehow ok, but the input will need replacing. Of course once it comes apart, there is no telling what my need replacing at that point. The second transmission is a Falcon small block that ,I believe, is from the same year. This transmission came with a GM main shaft, and no tail housing. Out of pure luck I ended up having a Falcon main shaft stashed away, but still no tail housing. My original thought was to part out the Falcon transmission, use that money to pay my friend off, and then fix to sell the Galaxie transmission. He only wants $200 for the pair. Tried parting out the Falcon trans, but that has yielded nothing. My next thought is to take the Galaxie transmission apart, buy whatever parts it may need, and then swap in the small block gear set. Is there much of a difference in value between a small block ,and big block, transmission? Common sense says, "Yes", but Fords are not my strongest suit. Any thoughts on if this might be a good idea?
I offered to pay him for them, but he said just sell the things and then pay him. Trying to figure out the most efficient way to continue. Might just tell him I sold some parts, and pay him anyway. Then at least the worrying about selling something would be gone. Seems the quickest would be to swap the gear sets, but the most profitable inthe long run would more than likely be to come up with a tail housing, and then have two complete transmissiont that are ready to go. I have never really liked parting stuff out. If you play it right you can end up with more money, but at the expense of the time it takes to sell everything. The worst of it is I used to have the exact tail housing that I need, but I'm pretty sure I scrapped it because I figured there was no way I'd ever use it. Why I still have the main shaft I haven't got the faintest idea.
