Your going to be slaughtered for that one,(whispers)I love it too but all time favourite,Milners coupe.I.d live with a gasser coupe or a..............christ there,s too many
Hard to pick one. It might just be the rod I'm building right now, the first 30s car I've ever built, a 30 sedan. Dream cars? A GT40 Ford would do nicely. Production sports cars would be a toss-up between a '57 Vette or a '63 split window. For a 50s cruiser, a '59 Plymouth Sports Fury would be hard to beat. I'd also give up a nut for a '63 Galaxie 500 XL 427 4-speed car. Aw hell, let's throw a '40-41 Willys coupe gasser into the mix too.....
My old mans 32 CHEVY 5 window, he bought it in 59, him and the grandpa I never got a chance to meet built a rod outta it in 60-61......although my dream will be come a reality in about a year or less....
'32 aren't off the list Randy- my top cars would all be '32s, but I'm talking about the one car you could drive to the store or across country and be comfortable and not paranoid it will get slammed into and waste 10,000 dollars worth of sheetmetal. I know you drive yours, but I would be scared if I did get a real '32 Sedan Delivery to put it out on the road. WHERE ARE THE KUSTOMS?????
I already own the one car I'd like to have... I'd just like it to run and be finished. 49 chevy coupe. second choice would be a 34 3 window. fenderless hiboy. there is one from SoCal that has been in a few magazines... orange, SBC, it was in the Pat Ganahl video. don't know the guys name. one of the few cars ever built where I wouldn't change a thing.
I'm a simple guy and dream within my resources. It may not mean much to others but, I'm in the process of buildin' the one car that I want to own (on the road). A '34 Ford five window coupe. Why: I'm buildin' it with ideas and influences from other hot rods that I like that would not be practical for my use. The 554 Coupe,Roy Creel's Coupe,15oz Coupe, many early 60's hot rods and way to many things to list. The help from others, people that I've met and the friends that I've made because of the car are very special to me. As I work on the coupe I think of them. That's a very good feeling to me. Maybe when the coupe is on the road I'll think about a Model A closed cab pick-up to go along with the coupe. Smokey
im still a sucker for 28-29 roadsters, even though the value isnt with the rest of them, and after whitey clayton did the nose and hood on the eddie dye car, thats got to be the one...at least for a little while.
I hope you're kidding I hope you're NOT kidding, that's cool.... Me too, that's why I'm building one. Do it before those buggies get anymore kitschy, and the $$ goes up!! That pistachio Muira is gorgeous (is the interior blue? wild), one of those in candy root beer brown would be SO perfect.... This is a trad. hot rod and custom board, interesting how many "other" cars would be the "one". True hot rodders? hmmm....... Oh, by the way, any car I build, is my ONE car. Currently, it's my '37.....
As I was reading this thread earlier today I was suprised that most guys were mentionin' cars other than their own. But, there was a couple of us typin' at the same time about our own cars. Hey Krusty40 and 49Ratfink we are not alone.. Smokey
See avatar. '32 3 window coupe. It took me 3 years building it and every dime was overtime. Be nice to have a Thunderbolt, but for what they cost, I'd build my own....
ONE car? Are you kidding me? What day of the week is it? Where am I? Do I have access to a racetrack (oval or road coarse?), a drag strip, miles of salt, or am I restricted to the street... and which street? South Congress or Woodward would mean different cars to me, Route 66 or the Autobahn mean different cars as well. A GT40 wouldn't be ideal for the HAMB Drags and I wouldn't want to show up at the Goodwood revival in a chopped shoebox (but I would ). Since I was a kid I've fantasized about E-Type Jags, Porsche 356s, MGA coupes, the '55 Chev my father customized when it was brand new, or the '32 Ford roadster my father's pal Johnny built in 1950, Duesenburgs and Cords, chopped early 50s pickups, front engine dragsters, wacky Hollywood customs, moonshine runnin' late '30s coupes, and weird-o rides like 2CVs and Traction Avants... but if I had to pick one and only one from the list I couldn't do it.
40 ford coupe and 55 chevy---have both now--had the 55 since 76---the 40 was finished last year--plan to keep em both and finsh the 57 chevy F.I. hardtop I've owned on and off since 77--after retiring now have some time to play with them--also built 40 coupe for my son-no need for any others--32's are nice but out of my range as I would have to sell a couple of these to get one-- the blue one is the kids, cloudmist grey one is mine--it's my grocery getter and run around car-the black 49 olds next to kid's car is top notch--would love one of these---had a couple in the mid 60's
AHH! Now I understand you are talking about the car we can practically drive and feel we can afford to drive as our daily driver! Although the XK-E is still up there and if I had found one back enough years that they weren't auctioned as "classics". (I could have bought one in '75 for $1200 but didn't have $1200 that day...but it was at least reasonable.) I still wish one was in the driveway. The car that fits that bill now, and has since '85, is my '73 MGB-GT. It is, (in a 50-50% sharing with my '40 GMC since I got it on the road in '93,) my daily driver. They must be, That's all there is running in the driveway. I like driving the MG. It's fun yet practical since it's a mini hatchback stationwagon serving similar services to JimA's chosen Nomad. (I hauled a '28 Model A cowl, tank and firewall assembly home from the swap meet in it!) It "fits" me when I'm in the drivers seat, wheel shifter and pedals all right where they need to be. Only problem is getting this achy old body in and out of it!
My dad's old 63 Impala....no significance to anyone but me as it was nothing more than a new 63 non SS with a 327-300 hp 4 speed.. But he ordered it, ive heard a lot of story's about it and would love to have it back.. It's probably long gone now though..
Thats an easy one...The Batmobile...cause its cool. But it would cost more than a house and is not a reality.
This thread has got me thinkin'....I've had about 100 cars so far....MGTD...MGA coupe....Porsche super 90 coupe....49 Anglia gasser....custom 51 Merc....29 Highboy roadster....Track roadster T....56 Nomad....custom 48 Chev PU....59 Corvette...and many more.....these cars mostly just fell into my life on a whim and were great fun, but one car I've wanted since the 60's is a chopped 41 Ford business coupe tail dragger, and it's almost ready for the road........Maybe THEN I'll be happy....But....I've never had a 32, or a chopped shoebox, or a salt flats Studebaker lowboy, or a.............................?
My 51 Ford Business Coupe, built for the Autobahn. Appearance kept as close to a mild custom as possible, but with high-tech underpinnings. When done, on the boat to the fatherland for some high-speed driving (and surprised looks).
I do really regret selling the coupe. I can live with the fact it is most likely in a BETTER home now ... but I do miss it. It was one of the most all round FUN cars I have ever owned. I did not post a photo of it ... in honor of Vic ... owning it now ( it's his car now ) ... but since he posted about it ... here it is ... Just a old 40 Ford ... with a 283 done the old way with a Wilcap adapter. Drive it to work, take the wife out to eat ... go to a few shows and cruise ins. In almost 6 years of owning it and having been from Ohio to Florida in it ... the 40 never left me on the side of the highway. It always got me home ... it was nice enough to go in yet not a show piece that I had to worry about. I made it nicer with New paint and running boards since the above photo ... new upholstery too ... Then I got STUPID and thought I needed to sell it to buy another 32 Ford.
First on my list since 1964 , an 1963 R2 Avanti 4 speed dark green with tan interior. I fell in live with them the first time I saw one , and my mom's uncle was the last Studebaker dealer in the USA. Second , next an 1962 Super Falcon. A car Holman Moody buillt for Ford and sold in Europe to compete against their best in road racing and in rallys. In 1063 H-M built 3 Fastbacks for Road Rallies. Third my 1967 Formula S Baracuda Rally car ( Tuna one ) lot of found memories there. jim h
I forgot to mention....I would love to own "The Wiener Mobile"....Maaan!, it would be so much fun to show up at work in that....or the local car guy hangouts....or go camping in it.....
