So the trans. is ready to go back in. This truck has a factory external cooler plus running through the radiator. I moved my parts washer over and hooked it up to flush the lines out. The first photo shows pretty clear fluid coming out of the hose, the second photo with all the black in the tub is what I blew out of the lines even though it showed clean fluid. I spent about an hour doing this until I was satisfied it was as clean as I could get it. Just for reference if your replacing a transmission. DSCN2750.JPG DSCN2751.JPG

    Let me introduce my new guy, TJ. He's cool as **** and a hard worker. His truck runs 6.50 in the 1/8th. 20251022_105221.jpg 20251023_113244.jpg 20251023_113259.jpg 20251023_124001.jpg 20251023_124008.jpg 20251023_165118.jpg 20251023_165125.jpg 20251023_165136.jpg 20251023_165145.jpg

Doing some serious detailing before I put the GTX away for the winter. The engine compartment is the most time consuming, so I got that cleaned up first. I also stripped and repainted the air cleaner base and replaced the fossilized Air Grabber seal. To do the whole car from bumper to bumper will probably take about a week. Then I can switch vehicles around, there's a laundry list of things I want to do on the '58 this winter.

Pulled my wife's Checker out of storage. Needs rust repair in the floors and trunk. Pulling the engine and transmission out as well. They both leak out of every possible place they can. Going to replace the Th400 with a 700R4 and a full gasket kit for the 350. FB_IMG_1585101334179.jpg

I bought an aluminum radiator for my 57 Fairlane 500 . When I got it running I put a new br*** radiator in the car . 4 years on the road the seam between the tank and core split . I was told by the old radiator shop man that was a weak area due to the length of the tanks . He repaired it and it’s lasted another 4 years. He has retired . I was going to paint the aluminum radiator flat black but instead I decided to embrace the aluminum. I got out the cordless drill , a rubber bumper and cut 3/8” squares out of a scotch bright pad .

Different neighbor picked up an 04 Monte Carlo Super Sport S/C Intimidator. Did not do a ppi, nor ask for advice about it til after purchase and drug it home.
Is this some kind of pride thing?
I'll ask for help after funds transfer.

    N- 'What do you think?'
M- 'Did you at least barter down $1K for tires?'
    N- 'No.'
    M- '...'
    N- 'It's nice though, right?'
    M- 'Your money...'

Needs engine mounts(6 of them), trying to trace down a possible oil leak which if it's the VCs it will be hell to get to. PS reservoir location is definitely typical FWD V6 GM. Coolant reservoir was empty, rad was low.

    M-'Did you check the coolant?'
    N-'No, why?'
    M-[IMG]
N-'Do I have to run premium?'
M-'If you like your engine in one piece, yes.'
N-'What if I just cruise around?'
M-'If you want regular, then get a regular Monte Carlo.'

Tires are 12 and 15 years old and bald and it just started raining, trying to get the owner to purchase new shoes has been the hardest battle. Car has TPMS, but the tires are so old the TPMS sensors died, so there's a huge red square with TPMS lighting up the dash.

N-'How do you turn that off.'
    M-'Buy new tires.'
N-'Yeah, but how do you turn it off?'
    M-'Buy. New. Tye-ers.'

There may have been some way to turn off the warning lamp with the stock radio, but that is no longer an option.

Don't get me wrong I like my neighbor, but I'm trying real hard not to ream him anew.:D

Looking up Wbody or 3800 series forums for info and they are sorely lacking any with good tech. If anyone knows of a good forum/site on this car I'd appreciate a link.

The Suburban is back on the road with a working trans, spent the day cleaning up my old Pontiac and getting ready to look over and service a few things on my new ride. From a trans. shop to a detail shop in one easy step ! DSCN2757 - Copy.JPG DSCN2756.JPG DSCN2758.JPG

Gotta replace the belt on my compressor, the way I built the shed I can't remove the shield so I am going to take the cutting wheel and remove it the red neck way.

It's not really nessessary, I don't intend on taking the shed down so this weekend I'm gonna go cave man on the cage. HRP

20251031_140804.jpg picked up a standard bore 400 last week so I stripped it down to go to the machine shop. Its getting one of the steel 350 cranks I scored from the closed up machine shop.
