Lets see, uhh, money, money, and uhh, oh yeah, money!
Esp with a lil one on the way, lol!

    Also, body work......
Lets just say I "saved" my truck from the hands of idiots..
After having my truck for as long as I have, I broke, and did something about the body/paint. I was trying to wait till I got a bed, but thats never gonna happen.... Anyhow, Im pretty sure they people who owned it before me, used a house hold type flat black paint...I spent two hours sanding by hand, and only accomplished getting the hood finished...lol.

Haha, lol, my turn for this comment.
    I live in SW MO.
Between the heat/heat index, AND the humidity....its been close to unbearable.
    But..still out in the garage.
Trust me...I would much rather have it cold outside with the option of a space heater in the garage...a fan just circulates the hot/humid nasty air, lol.
...Wouldnt give it up for a min

Making parts and then waiting for the paint to dry before reinstalling.

I always say whatever I do on my projects, it always seems that I do everything twice when it comes making stuff.
Its like the 1st is the prototype and then the 2nd is the finished part/bracket etc.

It took me a long time to get measuring right, you know, just the right amount of gear lash, or just the right valve settings, right amount of clutch pedal travel, etc...never understood why, it should be easy compared to some of the stuff other guys have listed...but I struggled with it, probably why I broke more stuff than most....

Putting all of the window regulators and hardware in the doors and just finding all of the parts. I have bought basket cases that the parts were removed and thrown in a box with no labels and a bag of assorted nuts and screws.

I'm with you. Alot of wasted time repainting parts that someone will never see because of a couple imperfections.

FINDING PARTS. I'm building a full on kustom. I'm using alot of parts that do not usually see the kustom world. And the reason being the are hard to find and nearly always need alot of repair. I just don't want a desoto grille and packard tails like everyone else.

  16. staying on task, as said with projects and having a family they take longer these days so your ideas and theme can change and having 10 projects at once and being more than likely a little or a lot ADD or ADHD or some other acromyn for not being able to walk past a bench to fiddle with something when you where heading for the other bench tha thas you to -do list on it....building is easy, managing the build(or your head) is hard.

I find some of the comments a bit amusing. I actually like every phase of a build. What I find difficult is re-works. Re-works of someone else's idea of good. I've removed plastic filler from finished cars that's over a 1/4" thick...FOR NO FUCKIN REASON!!! WHY THE FUCK WAS THIS DONE?!!?? Then I have to hear the customer bitch about it, but hey, I didn't do it, I fixed it right...

Some of my personal projects have several "what the fuck" areas on em. My 61 has lapped 1/4 panels instead of butt welds and tar and pop rivets for inner rear wheel openings. Not any more, but there's a WTF for ya. It's so much more fun to do it right, do it pro, I never will understand hack-fucks. I hate a car that looks like it was slapped together just to go for a ride and then left that way. I see a lot of that too. Hard to accept and has no place in my shops. Once everythings back to a good start none of it is hard. Wiring's easy. Good grounds and don't over-think it. Paint and body, hey it's not for everyone but that's what the pros are for. Good work pays for itself. Impossible to prove that idea wrong. Interiors are hit n miss. Doing later model stuff is usually as easy as an interior kit but can be intimidating to some. Again there's pros for that too, but the older 30s and heavy kustom stuff, you need a real pro. Knowing what you want is harder than doing it sometimes. The rest falls into place if you "listen" to the car and that lil voice in your head that questions that move you're about to make.

  18. The unforeseen costs, for one. The other for me is seeing a project all the way through. I've finished one car out of probably 10 project cars in my life time. Some times I see another car or truck I just HAVE to have then send my current vehicle down the road. Lot of regrets

    X2.

My goal is to build cars that need less, this will speed up the process

That and its never, good enough, to just shoot the paint.

Chassis fab and engine building is the real fun but I actually enjoy wiring and plumbing too. It's paint and body work I don't like.

And the other big deal is trying to balance time in the garage and with the wife.

like most people on here its finding the money, finding parts here in the UK is probably the hardest thing though. A lot of people have said the bodywork but that's not a problem for me.
