Sorry to read that, hope he didn't think he was getting a Vauxhall 30-98 in the trade.

I've had a bunch of cool things.... agree, if you make $$ selling, you made money, it's all inflation, a $27k house then, is now $155k. Everything costs more.

but I live by the 3 trip rule. If I trip over something 3x times....it's gone... that means, sell, free or scrap pile, don't care....gone.

Me either. The old “should have waited 15 years to sell it” means I couldn’t get out of the driveway without helicopter assistance;)

    Hello,

At age 16, I wish we had kept the whole 292 c.i. SBC motor with the 671 supercharger we had built. It had the latest Isky Gilmer Belt Drive Kit and all of the top speed parts necessary for a blower motor. But, the thread title says “parts” so:
    upload_2022-11-17_3-40-40.png
These official Henry’s Machine Works custom made 15 inch by 9 inch wide Chevy rims.

At the time, Henry’s Machine Shop made a shortened driveshaft, but, we had given that away to another friend. We were in a funny period of our lives. All of the excitement of building and working on our Willys Coupe with the 671 SBC motor was exciting. The daily after school work, then into the backyard garage to do something until dinner. On the weekends, it was all day and night, unless we went to the drags.

The recollection of events started in the hospital room with some deep thoughts of what we were going to do next. I wanted to keep the stuff and use it for another build. My brother was in a quandary. First, he had to get well and then think about it.

    Jnaki

To see if there was any inclination for further drag racing for us, we went to the big 1961 Winternationals in Pomona to check things out. We parked, got comfortable, had our supplies and watched from the seats of the 58 impala, in a front row of cars along the middle of the dragstrip. On the way home, my brother said that... "it was just not the same..."

After 6 months of recovery time, we both decided to forego any more race car builds and racing. We listed the parts that were now in our backyard garage under a large canvas cover, out of sight. By January the ad was in the weekly Drag News with errors by the typist. By June of 1961, everything was gone, except for the hydraulic jack and the welding equipment.

The 671 SBC motor was the last to go and that was it. Although I had visions of installing the 671 motor in the Impala and or my friend's 57 Chevy Bel Air Hardtop, we decided to make a clean break. A new direction with a couple of longboards and in months, desert racing motorcycles were parked inside. On with the new…

Our little speed shop business went on for our friends to get discounts in parts, but that too was waning. The future could have been different, but the direction we chose was the right choice... YRMV

No, see, make a bigger pile. Then you have to walk around it and not trip over it;)

Sometimes. I give things away, just to see someone use it. I sold an original 455 W30 alum intake to a classmate at Ohio Diesel Tech... $30... he could have fallen over. I bought it for $15 at a junk yard.

  14. It's the little things: the water pump pulley and fan from my '77 351W that I foolishly thought I wouldn't need; the steering box and shaft from the '60 F-350, or any other part of that truck I sent to the scrapper; the taillights from my grandparents' junked '48 Chevy; the '54 331 hemi heads I salvaged from a junked block; the 3x8-foot sheets of aluminum highway sign that I decided not to bring with me when I moved a quarter mile to my new house; all the running gear, wheels, radiator, engine, etc. from the AA I'm building. At least I sent those along to another AA guy in trade for some welding work.

Back in the very early '70s, when the airplane industry went into the dumpster and aeronautical engineers were walking the streets of California looking for gas station jobs, I moved to Indiana. The wife was insistent that we take all the well-used second-hand furniture, so I left a 2 1/2 car garage full of Y-blocks, 390's and pre-'58 Harley parts behind :(. When we got a little established in Indiana and I started acquiring parts and cars again, she decided to move from the country to town while I was out on the road. She had the local salvage guy come out and haul off my newly acquired cherry 1964 Fairlane two door hardtop that cost me $50.00, a stash of FE engines and a T85 R11 overdrive trans :(:mad::mad::rolleyes:. We just hit 54 years of marriage and I'm still waiting to see if it's going to work out ;).

I had to dump a Y bold Edelbrock three deuce intake manifold, a Mallory ignition for the same, a bunch of flathead Ford parts including speed equipment when I went into the Air Force in 1968. My father wanted it gone, oh well.

  17. I had 4 Cord engines and an Indian Chief frame. Should have kept them til now and sold them for big dough, oh well.

  18. Not me but my dad had an old lifted jeep Cherokee (maybe it was a wagoneer?) From the late 70's with a HUGE motor in it. I can't remember what it was but he said the engine alone was worth a ton but it got impounded and he didn't have the cash to get it out. It had an uninstalled blower in the trunk apparently

in one way I wish I kept everything that I had and given away or sold off.

but in reality I'm doing my kids a favor by selling things off.

Four pot Weiand intake for early Hemi. With a quartet of Stromberg 97's on it.

What the hell was I thinking?

I always sold the special stuff that would sell quickly for big dollars at the time.

That's the stuff that went up exponentially in price.

In hindsight, my "engine collection" was not the best choice. :D

Starter motor switchover to put a 394 olds in 1940 Ford Coupe without having to move the steering box. It eliminated the oil filter on the passenger side.

    Smart guy that I am...;)
I decided to start downsizing about 15 years ago. Over the years, I had accumulated over 20 grilles, '32s, '33s & '34s. I was amazed that I was getting $400-$600 a piece for them on Epay...and thought this has got to be the "top" of the market, and we'll never see prices THAT high again...oops:(
