I just got a Yukon and probably will install it today. Has a good reputation with the 4x4 crowd and the whole kit is made in the USA. Got the Yukon Trac-Loc, Motive gears, and install kit (Timken bearings, gaskets, shims, etc.) for $585 from www.quickperformance.com.
http://www.ford8and9inchrears.com/ Have a 8 inch in my 32, Sent my Brother and his friend with a hurtin 9 inch to him and he fixed it right in front of them!!! He's one of those guys you can shoot the shit all day long with!! Pete
I bought a used 8.8 for a project and on inspection there were a few teeth missing from the spider gears. I researched prices on the internet and found out I could buy a complete new posi assembly from Ford Motorsport for less money than a set of spider gears. I think it was around $225 a year ago. Shop around.....
^^ Boy that's cheap. Big thread on the HAMB somewhere I researched when I was looking. Some dependence on main application; street, strip, snow, ease of release in cornering and braking... There are clutch and clutchless (worm type) units.
Doug you can get a Detroit locker for an 8", excellent for strip use but not so good for a driver in my opinion
Hopefully the locker for the 8 in. is the new generation "soft locker" style. I have a DL for my roadster 9 in. and everybody tells me I'm gonna hate it. But then again they said the same thing about my tires, and my motor, and my..... I'm gonna love every miserable minute of it.
I started off with a spool in my Willys but it was pretty dodgy when it was damp so I changed to s Detroit locker which was way better but I didn't like the way it unloaded when the coming off the power so changed to a Eaton truetrac, it's now absolutely as smooth as silk and feels just like a daily driver when driven normally but locks up as sweet as when the hammer goes down, a massive thumbs up from me !!!
