Cobalt, I can't help with what will fit the '56 Olds, but I have a 455 Olds in a Model A coupe. I am using a small Champion aluminum radiator in a 28/29 grill shell, mechanical fan/no shroud, and it runs at just under 180º all day long. Granted my engine is out in the open which helps, but thought you'd want to know about Champion. Available from several online sources, and they run a tad over $200. You must have more space for a radiator than I did.

thanks bluedot...you just added to my confirmation on the champion radiator..i saw one on ebay and had come to the conclusion that is the right one..its a 28 inch wide core with 2 electric fans and its a 4 core.. i will have to shave a bit of metal out on each side of the clip but then it should work great..

    Use the original.

I did on my 55 and it actually runs too cold. I have a 190 thermostat and block off over half the radiator in winter and 1/4 in summer. I did do a thread on fitting the engine with the photos in it as you asked if you search.

I did have to have the outlets changed to suit the 455 though.

Glad to be of help. And at 28" wide, it's almost 50% bigger than mine. Two electric fans? You'll be fine.
Dunno if you've ever had a 455 Olds before, but you're gonna like it. When they use the phrase "torque monster", they aren't kidding. I'm just running two old AFBs and a mild Crower cam. Have never buzzed past 5000 - no need to. It'll roast tires at 2000 in 2nd (Muncie). Some fun! CAUTION: They have a bad reputation for top end oiling. I strongly suggest a hi perf oil pump
