I'm putting a 331 chrysler hemi in a 29 Model A and I am trying to figure out what radiator to use. I have talked to Summit and got a couple ideas. I have an old Model A radiator that I could recore but the cost is more than a new one from Summit. I am resticted as to the size. I want to put it in a 32 shell which is 18 inches wide. I am also looking at the height and it can't be over 19 inches high. Would an aluminum radiator be OK for the 331? Anyone have good source for a replacement radiator? The bottom outlet is on the passenger side of the Chevy big block pump that I put on the 331. The Model A lower outlet is on the drivers side. I haven't looked for a hose that would make the crossover.

Choices are after market, custom or re-core. You'll definitely want 2 rows inside. Traditional would be to re-core your old one. Other than that, sky's the limit. I'm using a 2 row aluminum now, but I've been considering a 3 row. Like I learned a shroud and proper fan are to be considered as well.

  5. Sounds like you want custom size, outlets, and filler (probably pressurized).

Depending on the look you want unless you want to get creative with mounting the rad and shell, it might be easiest to order custom.

I was in a similar boat with a cad 390, a model A frame and channeled 30-31 shell (so the rad was really short). Plus I needed trans cooler for auto. I shopped around and brassworks I found to have outstanding customer service, very knowledgable in helping me make necessary decisions about design (location and diameter of outlets, pressurized filler, # of rows necessary, mounts, exact size, and fittings for trans cooler). It was basically the same price no matter what customizations you needed because they build from scratch anyways. Walker told me it was extra charge for each departure from stock (except for height) so they were going to be way more $. Plus they had a hamb alliance discount. I got it in less than 2 weeks, and looked great and fit great. And now that I'm finally running it and am very pleased with its performance, about which I was very worried because of size.

So it may hurt a little to spend the coin, but id personally recommend brassworks. As I recall it was like 640 to my door, which really isnnt bad all things considered
