What rear-end for a model A?

What kind of cheap, easy to find, modern, rear-end will fit under a Model A frame and look right. I know this has probably been asked and answered several times before but I'm new here. I seem to remember hearing that a Ford Ranger rear will work but I'm not sure and don't know which years to use. Any help will be much appreciated. Rusty.

  2. Wouldn't something from a Granada, Monarch, or even a late 80's/early 90's 5.0 Mustang work?

I had a Granada rear in a 32 coupe once.

We just got through putting a s-10 rear under our last project. Model A roadster, open wheels and it looks and performs fine.

Model A's are pretty narrow and an early Ford Bronco has been recommended before. Go back and do a search on both the message board and the Tech Archive on rear ends and Model A's and you'll get plenty of hits. This question has been asked several times in the last couple of months so you should be pretty successful with a search. Don't be intimidated with the software here, its pretty good and the search features are pretty easy to work through.

Thanks to everyone who replied. There seem to be lots of options that could be had for a good price with a little looking around, Thanks AZAV8 for turning me on to the search thing. I had not tried it before but with a little fumbling around got it to work and opened up a gold mine of infromation. I currently have a good Model A frame, a bell type spring behind front end with econoline brakes, a sort of hybrid Model T roadster body(front cowl and doors are roadster and back part looks like it came off of a coupe) and a few other odds and ends. As soon as I find a rear end I will start constuction and try to post pictures. Hope to be done in time to go to the Round Up in Austin next year. Thanks to all, Rusty. :)

If you are ging to run fenders.........the V8 Maverick is the preferred one....... :) At least around in my neighborhood.

    56 inches.....measured this way...

It has the 5 on 4.5 Ford wheel bolt pattern ( standard Ford car 49 up )

Some like the Bronco.......I have one under my 32 full fendered Roadster. The Bronco is about 2 inches wider than the Maverick......and had the 5 on5.5 wheel pattern ( like 40 Fords and F-100's)

Here is a list of common Ford rear end widths.....

Hope it helps in your decision.....I would NEVER put a rear end under a project that does not have a easily changed rear center section ( 8" ,9" Ford, 55 to 64 Chevrolet or some Mopars :D ) Just my nickel......
