    What is highway Speed?
In my experience a 1952 Chevy Business Coupe ( yes I had one) loves 50 mph.
    50 ain’t bad but I have a Model T.

    Transmission change.....
    A flipping nightmare!
    216 1bbl.....
California Bill published some books on hopping up the Chevy 6 in the early 50s.
    Dual carbs and manifolds....
Those cars were doing over 100 mph In Short Bursts.....
A big deal is making sure the dippers and tubes are properly targeted correctly in the oiling system.
Another option is a 54 up or 51 up Powerglide 235 with full pressure oiling.

A later 235 will wind tighter than a 216. The 216 can but the oiling system has to be perfect.

A 216 with a little pep and the oil system set up correctly should do 60 plus in short bursts.

Not mentioned is tires. Cars of this era like tall skinny tires. Low profile big meats..... Not So much.

The bottom line it is what it is and what it is ain’t bad.
    Choose your routes.
    Be smart
    Enjoy it.
