Hey guys and gals been thinking about what other mods i want to do to the ol plymouth. Since the pics i have removed the gravel guards, rocker trim, and lowered it more. Not really into skirts and frenched headlights but would like to do some other tradional modifications. I am planning on putting belt line trim back on similar to a merc. Since the chop i have never really like the way my hood looks. Ran without a hood for a bit and loved it, but would really like to change it someway. Look at the bottom pic to get a good side profile.

    Any suggestions???

    Thanks
    matt

it looks really good the way it is... put a (S) Scoop on each side..

  3. Tank, I know this could be a major job but what if you follow the same upper line as the top of the fender, to get rid of the pointiness of the front of the hood. Probably would balance the curviness of the roof profile . My 2 cents , Rob

You could pancake it and take wedge slit out of it to take some of the peak out. Like 2in in the front and taper to the rear.It will lay the hood down just slightly.

Yea thought about pancaking it but not sure where to make the cuts and how to line it back up. Any thoughts. Not sure on the the rounded corners.... will have to think about it. Seems like a lot of work for not alot of change.

Yeah all of the above. Especially the pancake. That will elimanite the buldge in the front of the hood and inprove the overall profile of the car.

    Tank,

It's funny, I'm trying to change mine also but I want mine like yours. I'm planning on a '50 Ford hood.

Personally, I wouldn't change it. Maybe a change in headlights but other than that I really like your car.

How are you diggin' the discs?

    It is painted.

Disc brakes and dual master cylinder and new lines are one less thing to worrry about now. Yea really like them. I set it up just like ECI told me to do and i think if i take out the hold off vavle up front it would stop quicker.

Peak the center from front to mid-back, then it would'nt look so round.

Unless you mold in a grill opening don't radius the corners.
    It would be mixed messages.
don't pie cut pancake or any of that "'90's custom rod" ****.
You do need perfect alignment though. I think the right fender needs to come up some at the front to meet the hood. and carry on from there.
Paint it when it's all straight.

Check out pictures of a "sharknose Graham" and then compare it to your pics - adding a little to the nose might be an idea? Try a photoshop first of course.

51-54 Chrysler/Desoto hoods flow better, not the bull nose look of the Plymouth/Dodge. I've got one from a 54 Imperial you can have if you want it. It would need a little slicing and dicing to make it work, but it's a thought...

Get in some bodywork practice bumping out all the dents before moving on to the special stuff.

first thing is, put the gravel guards back on, they are the first thing that popped in the first pic. I said to myself how cool that car was.

Tank, first off your car looks great!! If you did want to modify the hood you could try louver. If you leave the hood alone, maybe redoing the grille adding vertical elements, close together, and/or possibly frenching the lights. Seriously though, I would leave her as she is right now.

The 49-50 Plymouths have a lot of peak to the front of the hood. 51-52 has less of a peak, that '54 Imperial hood would really smooth things out, but would be a lot of metal work. How high does your core support and radiator sit inside your hood? I doubt there's much room for a lower-profile hood.

I second or third or 4th the louver idea, the car looks good as is. Throw some color on it and it will totally change the look of the car
