Found one in a junkyard this morning, don't want to low ball the guy. Engine only. It's my dream motor and I can't believe I found one 5 miles away.
that would be a 364... kinda the oddball. good engine, hard to find correct intakes, although 322 inakes and log style ones will work, does it run? big factor.
322 intakes will not work, yes you can elongate the holes to bolt it on but the ports are way off and most intakes don't have enough meat to fix it. Log intakes fit any Nailhead. The Offy stuff is still being made for the 364's, not great but better than a 2 barrel. The stock 4 barrel intakes are ok. Same bellhousing pattern as the 401/425 which is good. Probably can't find out if it runs, but if it turns and seems to have compression $200-300 for a 364. If you can hear it run $500. If it doesn't turn I wouldn't even bother.
Thank you for the input. So the 364 is not a good investment then? I can't find a 322 anywhere near me. The guy says it ran before it was parked there a few years ago, but that's what everyone always says.
I say buy it. I paid $700 for a '61 LeSabre just to get the 364. I parted out the car and ended up making a little money. I bought the Offy manifold; I know it doesn't flow as well as some, but for the type of driving I'll be doing I don't think it will matter. And there's plenty of shiny stuff that will bolt to the 364.
The 364 is a great motor................! You can a use the later ST400 trans. from the '65/'66 motors if you want an automatic. With the stock four barrel it was rated at 300 HP.(I have one on ebay now). If it turns over, $300 is a good price. I don't have any use for the 322. the 364 is a decent motor, my dad has one thats balanced, 12.5 : 1 pistons, solid isky cam, and an aluminum flywheel, we even found a early weiand dual quad intake for it.
