Technical what spindle ??....f100 brakes

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by KimLeonard, Oct 3, 2013.

  1. First time for me putting a trad front end together, and I think I'm in over my head. Wanting to put '56 f100 brakes on a 33-36 Ford axle (going on my 29 coupe)

Now I've read all the threads on putting these brakes on early spindles, however what I dont know is WHAT spindle/kingpins could I use on my axle to make this work.

Would the after market '37 onwards spindles fit my plan, or should I be looking for original spindles, if so what year. (if fact do any the early spindles interchange with axles ?)

    Thanks Kim

37 - 41 roundback or 42 - 48 square back spindles, use 53 - 56 F-100 brakes (complete with backing plates etc), also use Speedway 916-31934 bearing kit. Follow instrucktions for grinding in the referenced article above.

  4. you can use `37-`48 ford spindles with your 33-36 axle and the f100 brakes. the aftermarket spindles work too. just use the kingpins of the year of the spindles.

  5. Thanks guys, clears a few things up for me. I'd seen the thread that 'agshelby' put the link to many times before.

As much as they told you how to do the job, what they didnt mention was WHAT spindles they were putting the brakes on. Confusing for me was that they said they were doing this to a Model A. After some research (due to my lack of knowledge) I found that those were NOT Model A spindles they were using !!

.....so again thanks guys, anything else that I need to know ?, or any other tips ?

  6. For my selection I used a thread on here that covered the spindles in more detail - but I cannot find it today. (My search skills...) Basically it covered the same spindles as the update from Fenders above. I used '46 car spindles and the rest of the brake build out was identical to the article I posted above:
