getting ready to have red and white roll and pleat interior done in the '29 Roadster. Would a red metal flake steering wheel look right in it? Car will get painted this winter, the blue will be gone.I just put a wheel from my '61 chevy pu in it . It looks pretty good, but is way to big. It has modern steering so a smaller wheel will be fine.
I think the red metal flake wheel would look good..but, I wouldn't limit myself. There are usually a lot of different original wheels at swap meets (40', 50's, 60's, etc. with a lot of character), they can be repaired and painted the color you like. I would be drawn to an era of the theme you are going for with the car. Nice roadster, post some pics with it's new paint.
I agree with 40FORDPU, there are alot of very cool factory steering wheels to choose from. I think the flake wheels look better on heavily modified/customized rides or drag cars..my 2 cents.
the little silver thing was in it when I bought it. The big white one is out of my truck. I like it alot except it is so big. Thats the only reason I was thinking about the red flake wheels.
i would say try the little red flake one. i am all for swapping old wheels in cars but the thing looks huge on your car
I take it from using the 61 wheel your column has the splined shaft. You can always go like others and use the new 40 Ford wheel made for a splined shaft. Paint it any color you want or even two toned.
Please put what you like on your car. However, I think a red MF wheel will be perfect-if you also plan to have a nicely fogged snow leopard mural done on the trunk hood. Otherwise, stay away from the 80's-I'd go with a more traditional wheel-color if you want a bit of an upgrade. JMTC.
x2 the car looks good with a white wheel right now, and even better with new red/white interior also, if the red interior is just a bit different shade than a red wheel, it might look real bad.
Are you talking one of the new Moon 'flake wheels or scrounging up one of the old 3 holers? I think either style would look good. Isn't someone is making those in a smaller version (15" maybe)?
Maybe you could put a new, smaller hoop on the wheel. I know it has been done, but I couldn't tell you how, or how difficult it is to do.
