is this a 23-25 touring front half? is it short or long .? I'm having trouble with finding a firewall .
I'm not a authority on T's but it appears to have been a touring car, don't most of the T's share a common firewall? If your building a hot rod why not make a firewall. HRP
23 at the newest, low cowl. Probably had a wood firewall originally. Low steel firewalls are not common. And yes, it was a touring. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
thanks for the replys. almost a 100 years old. neat. the posts do fit the car . is the turtle deck the same era?
Make a firewall!! Whatever you find probably won't fit the motor anyway, unless you run a stock motor in it!
This is what I started with. About what you have. What are your plans for it? You've got a lot of fabricating ahead of you, the firewall is the least of your jobs. just find a piece of metal big enough. Aluminum or whatever set the front of the body up against it, trace around it, cut and attach it. Weld, bolt whatever. I made mine out of aluminum and bolted it with S.S. carriage bolts. But then you've got a lot of work ahead of you before that. If you use that turtle deck you'll have to make it fit the back of the touring car backrest. It will be tricky to make it look right.
23 was the only year to have 2 different firewalls, this appears to be an early 23 or older. I had a 23 runabout and that point drove me nuts until I figured it out. I had both firewall and both were steel. BigSkyBob
I have solid extra T firewall. PM me the measurements of what you need and I'll compare it to mine? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
^^I'm in 100% agreement^^ Lots of fabricating in your future to make that turtle deck look right behind that touring front seat panel. Maybe consider going without it and building a modified? Just a thought. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I have a loose pre 26 T firewall out in the barn. It came with some 26/27 stuff I bought. It's pretty nice and has been trimmed to clear a V-8 style bell housing. I'll get a photo of it latter tonight and post it up for ya. Maybe on of these guys can tell us both what year it is. Could be just what your looking for. I can spare the wall art. The Wizzard
High firewall has rib extending upward on both sides from recessed area where mount bolts on. Low just has vertical recess for mounts with no rib running up from there. Width is different as well I think. Yes, 24 3/8" for early/low, 28" for late/high. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I like the simple look of the 25 T firewall with the bead and the holes. I may build one similar to it. I plan to keep gathering the skills/info to make bun panels.i have experience in tuck shrinking and have made my own T strips before .... thanks for the offers but I should be fine.
Here is what I have. It looks like it went to a Gun Fight and lost. All the holes appear to be factory. Let me know if your interested. The Wizzard
That is the late/high firewall(23-25). Notice the aforementioned beads running up from where the firewall mounts are. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I must be missing something. How hard is it to fabricate a flat sheet metal plate that is shaped like the hole in the front ? Don
There is alot of fab work to make a turtle deck fit a touring but it can be done. My T I am building now started as a touring car.
Don; I'm with you on sheet metal building talent, However not every Car Guy has that gift. Sometime it's more about the Stock not Hand Built look. Some times it just has to Look Right not just fit. The Wizzard
No offense to Don or anyone else, but I hate flat steel firewalls on most cars. The OP's build direction would likely be the biggest deciding factor on the firewall. If he's building something similar to what olskool34 posted, a flat firewall would be atrocious in that style of car. Not everyone on the HAMB is into 50's and 60's style cars. Some of us are drawn to minimalistic early hop-ups and gow jobs, which require a bit of a restoration mentality along with the go-fast(er) thing. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Honestly, to do a fire wall for that is a matter of cutting a 3/4" plywood hammer form in the shape of the hole, grabbing some 18 gauge, forming the lip all around and finding someone with a bead roller to roll some beads. It really won't be that hard.
I can't build a wood firewall...BUT I'M GONNA RESTORE A CAR.........did I miss something here........?.....all in fun..........
...and if ya can't find a bead-rollin' dude, buy a $14 Harbor Freight router, draw some lines, and route out some furrows in that plywood! Now...BEAT those damned beads in, right into the wood buck. Just hammer 'til it looks like a firewall.
